I figured i would show you guys my practice piece for tooling leather. I used a swivel knife, a beveler and a teardrop backgrounder. I had some down time today and thought this would be a cool thing to do. It is a Imperial Eagle from europe and took me about 3 hours. Size is roughly 5"x5". I never really got into leather work before, but decided i wanted to do some tooling to compliment some of my more extravagant knife sheaths.

Thanks for looking

Very nice. Personally, I have zero artistic talent so I guess I'm a little jealous. :)
And very impressed!

That buzzard looks wonderful! ;)

All kidding aside, that's a good looking carving! Did you have a photo reference, or just the image in your mind?

I've never been artistic enough to just "come up with stuff", well I can do minor things but nothing too extravagant. However, I can sit down and draw what I see in crazy detail. I can also take what I see and implement it into other versions.

This was my first tooling project (other than basket weave on a sheath or 2). I used a pattern I had seen included with some of my leather stamps.

After doing that, I'm hooked. I want to learn all I can about carving, tooling, stamping...all of it! :)

Thanks guys! Rick...BWAHAHAHA! I happen to like chickens, Greg....You have an odd obsession with seagulls :D I did have a photo reference, but was all done freehand. I have some ideas to do with the next one. This one will be my design, again all freehand :)
Thanks for looking guys

As one who's tried a little carving, man you have some serious patience. Very well done. I also look forward to seeing it oiled and dyed(?). Fiebings highlighter works nicely on stuff like this.

That looks really great, I can't wait to see a sheath made with your fine art work.
