I have been having fun with my new blueback scandi hiking buddy. This week we made a bunch of blowguns and darts out of bamboo. It has been fun shooting them outside, and inside when no one is home. ;)

That little fella will be talking about that for a long time
Nice pics and that's a great knife

Lol, that's awesome man! I'll have to do that with my daughter, then keep it put up :)

Cool post man, looks like you two had some fun together

I remember your HB from the Fiddleback-Friday post and I must admit it looked a little boring to me at first but your pics really bring out the beauty of it's simplicity.

What did you use to hollow out the blowpipe itself?

Hey Tod,

I love the creativity of your knife projects. Obviously your son does too judging by the big smile on his face. It looks like he is having a blast.

I feel obligated to add one caution. Like so many fun things that guys want to play with, blowguns and blowgun parts are illegal in California. As long as your just having some backyard fun, it is cool. I would not advise taking that to a public park or campground though.

Whittle on my friend. You and thurin are influencing me to want a scandi Fiddleback.

Thanks,

Phil

Cool project Tod! Looks like a lot of fun. Unless of course your the banana or pumpkin. Nice looking HB.

I've never had a chance to play with bamboo. I'll have to try and find some.

Great thread Tod. I always enjoy these threads with our kids. Great to see. I'd be careful bending over around him though. He appears to be a good shot. :D

Thanks Vance!

Very cool. So who ate the banana to hide the evidence?

It was the sheet I put a hole through that was harder to hide. :D

Thanks Mist! It is like shooting spit wads, kids love doing it!

Way too cool !

Thanks Peter!

I was definitely not in the market for a hiking buddy, but I really liked the black on black with white pinstripe.

I got a three foot metal rod from the hardware store. I heated it up the tip with a propane torch and flattened it on my vise anvil. Then I filed a tip on it. I put the rod in my drill and drilled away. So the longest one I can make is about 6 feet.

Thanks for the heads up Phil. I did not know that about blow guns in California. All of the primitive traps are illegal too as far as I know. They are only to be used in a "survival situation". I don't know if you could actually hunt much with these. The modern ones are in a whole different league.

That scandi hiking buddy that velosa had for sale would fit your collection well!

Thanks Nathan! I have a backyard full of bamboo. It makes for a nice barrier but is a pain in the butt to control. We finally have ours all contained, but that is after a lot of hard work and some hard cash. I like to use it to do projects.

Thanks Dave! LOL. I had to lay down the law because he pointed it at me once and I can admit it scared me!

Well, it's a great score nevertheless, congrats

Thanks for explaining that, I'd like to try that myself one day if I can score some bamboo somewhere.
