Well I was taking some pics for another Infi feen and I got carried away so I figured I should just make a dedicated thread.

Here are some pics of the ASHBM (choiless) and the 1311. Arguably the two best choppers in the Bussekin Lineup. If you are thinking the 1311 looks kinda weird its because I gave it a "fallout", "zombie" treatment and thinned the grind down (a lot).

How about some testing. Probably not a good direct comparison since I put such a thin edge on the 1311 more designed for smaller, softer, faster stuff. Still lots of fun though.

20 whacks.

20 whacks

Looks like the 1311 went in a little further but overall pretty close. Could be the thinning of the edge and the ridiculously sharp edge.

One more time. 20 whacks for each blade. Both went completely through the first section which broke off and into the second. Almost dead on.

A note on edge thickness. Thin is good! But too thin is fragile, there must be a good balance and I believe the ASHBM is pretty close to the sweet spot. Thankfully, the 1311 has some great steel and even better heat treat so we got some rolls instead of chips.

Can we strop it out? Not quite but whats impressive is that between the two chips (an rea that clearly saw lost of use) the steel is hair whittling after just a strop. Gotta love that!!!

Its all good though a quick pass on the belts sander and its almost completely gone. I wanted the thin edge primarily for thin branches and green stuff. Unless I hit some stones I probably wont be seeing anymore chipping on the 1311.

Anyway, get out there and use your knives! Its a blast!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow--would not have predicted the ASHBM could keep up with a thinned-out 1311 as a pure chopper. That's impressive--thank you.

So no edge damage to the ASHBM, right?

LOL..this is the kind of thread I love...Yesterday night I decided to let my ASBM go...but now...I´m thinking about it...yet again...hahaha...
