Sometimes I go hiking and my eyes get drawn to animal tracks, sometimes to birds and sometimes to plants but today it was a Fungi day !

My TTSK with some Yellow Brain Fungus.....

I decided to try out the Canadian Jam Knot with some natural cordage( Cedar root), it didn't work as well as with Para cord but it did tighten up and would be a good start for a lashing......

I then finished it off with a kind of timber hitch type thing......

A little further along there was more fungi......

I struggle with wild edibles at this time of year but I did find some liquorice Root, boiled up this makes a tasty tea that cures colds ! Arbutus tree leaves were also in this area, boiled up they also cure colds and stomach pains so I guess a tea made with both would be pretty good stuff !

The girls enjoyed their walk as usual....

Great shots as usual pitdog! I hang around my office and marked 70 exams today....1/3 done!

This makes me feel bad for sitting inside and watching a 3 1/2 hour football game. Great pics as usual.

Cool stuff! I always like seeing the TTSK in action! :D:thumbup:

hey pit, in the photo where the mushroom is pushing up through the moss, were there alot of pine trees in the area?

cheers

Lots of Cedar and Douglas Fir, why?

well.. it kinda looks/resembles pine mushroom which is not only edible but expensive. apparently it grows in areas with lots of pine trees and starts under moss. once it has opened its cap it come above the moss but that makes it useless on the food market. only the unopened ones which hide under moss are considered valuable and worth eating.

prices range anywhere from 5 dollars to 160 dollars per pound depending on quality.

so i was just curious :D

I need to work on my knots! Nice work with the natural cordage. Are there some knots that are easier on cordage than others?

Very Kewl post Pit :) Fungi aint one of my better subjects so i tend to stay away (unless at a salad bar)... :)

Pits mushroom has gills like an oyster . The other shown , no gills. Looks like an oyster to me.
