Funky STeel

I believe that is basically a german 420 steel. 420 is used in a lot of low end knives and is not a very desirable in my opinion. Now Buck actually does a decent job of heat treating on their 420 and in that case it performs pretty well.

4034 is a cheap steel, but with a good heat treatment, it is a great and versatile steel. The problem is that most manufacturers don't use the potential of this steel. Imo the comparison with Buck's 420HC fits quite well, cause Buck gets the best out of the steel which often isn't the case with a lot of steels on the market.

I have a LOT of knives. and a Lot of what they call "Super Steels" One Of My Favoerite steels is 420HC Because it takes the sharpest edge. Doesn't break, and is very easy to sharpen,
I also Love the steel that is used in Forschner Kitchen knives. I have to Use them all the time and they Stay sharp for Long periods and all it takes to make it razor again is a few swipes on the steel. and all it is is .40521 stainless steel. Not Superman steel. cheap and related to 420.
My one favorite kitchen knife is the Forschner 7 inch chef knife. I have it for 15 years now. and It's as sharp as a shaving razor and I use it almost every single day to prepare food for many people.

My 420HC knife I am refering to is the Buck 110 and the buck Special fixed blade hunter. Wonderful knives with 420HC and Very Cheap for the expensive knife world. I have ad them for years and they are still working like they are supposed to. perfect.
