Alright I know this video is old but it is hilarious for anybody who knows even basic sword technique:

I couldn't stop laughing through the whole thing, he has no technique, misses his strikes, his kiai is... hilarious. He's apparently a "master" but can't use a sword properly at all.

Not sure what discovery channel/national geographic thought this test proved. That when you hack water based ballistic gel by a large sharpened piece of steel it's going to cut deep?

Mr. Obata, who was also in this episode in a more realistic situation, always used to say "sometimes swordsmanship, sometimes showmanship"

Meaning that often demonstrations are more about the "show" than about technique. It does amaze me (has always amazed me...) that different practitioners of open hand/empty hand arts are always wanting to show their prowess with a katana. Even the karate teacher who owns the dojo where I work out and used to have sword classes has a stand with two swords in it in his office.

It's kind of the symbol for Japanese based martial arts. The katana I mean.
