At least I think so..

As some of you might have noticed, I recently got this awesome Black DLC 3.5" XM-18 Wharnie:

While I love the XM-18 Wharncliffe, in fact I think it's my favorite blade style/grind, and the black DLC is freaking really cool - it's almost too cool

Meaning, I probably won't put it to use like it should be used because my OCD wouldn't be able to stand seeing any kind of a blemish on the blade.

Working finish XMs are a completely different story - I will use the crap outta those, customs included. So, when I saw a custom WF deep swedge spearpoint on the exchange I was interested.

Then, I noticed the possibility of a trade for a 3.5" black DLC.. Hmm, a few PMs later with a good friend from the forums and a deal was struck.

All is well you say? Yes, except I was slightly annoyed with myself. Another good friend from the forums had expressed interest in the DLC Wharnie and I had promised him dibs were I to ever sell it.

So, while I didn't actually put it up for sale, my conscience was still bugging me so I hit him up on FB with a heads-up/mea culpa that it was leaving my hands but not headed his way.

Then, the plot twists. Turns out, friends one and two here were also PMing each other about a possible trade of the DLC wharnie for a DLC slicer.

At the end of the day - I'm getting a custom WF deep swedge spearpoint that I will appreciate and use more than the DLC wharnie, friend one will get his wish and acquire the DLC slicer, and friend two will get the DLC wharnie.

I'll leave it to the other fellas to chime in if they so choose - I just thought it was a neat story and a happy set of circumstances that demonstrates the coolness of our community.

That's what happens when we have good friends who love great knives!

I set up a three way trade with a couple of guys who couldn't quite make a deal on their own, until I tossed my knife into the mix. They were still leary, but went for it. We all ended up happy.

The threeway trade. Menage a hinderer if you will. Gotta love it buddy. It worked out well for everyone involved. The DLC slicer has been a grail of mine for a long time. Don't get me wrong the DLC wharnie is grail worthy but the slicer is my favorite grind so it was a must. I remember friend 2 saying a dlc wharnie was a grail of his a few weeks ago so i figured another trade was worth a shot. The stars aligned and I am stoked!!! Ill miss that Spearpoint but it was a safe queen for me. The DLC slicer will be a user!!! Thanks to all. I love the forums. What a great community we have here. :)

Couldn't agree more!

And we saved a little bit of postage and cut down on a trip through the mail. I've had pretty good luck (knock on wood), but I'm all about mitigating risk!

Menage a Hinderer.. hehe

I tried like hell to work that sick pond scale into the trade but no luck. :( haha!

I already told you, you can have it if I die.

(no one get any ideas, I'm well armed. And my wife is a good shot too…)

I know that WF spear point you are referring to and I just wanted to say congrats! It's also cool to see 3 forumites getting something they want from one transaction;)

Wow! What a terrific story. And we truly do have an amazing community here. Reminds me of the 3" slicer story that was posted about me (and xxfalconxx) on another thread. Really cool to hear about how we acquire our blades. Especially Hinderer's, cause it's just that more exciting! I'm happy for the two guys that I know and for the other! Glad everyone could get what they want/prefer. Awesome story, thanks for sharing!

It really is funny how many of us know what everybody else has. I got a knife that I had to promise to give him first chance to buy it back if I ever ... ah, forget it! :)

Couldn't have worked out any better... Well I guess it could have for Jensen. And we know that story, right Shane :D

Now I just need to find something trade worthy for your other Spearpoint :D

Good story, it is a small world and funny how things can work out.

On a related but off-topic note, ever wonder how trades get done in baseball, particularly the multi-team and multi-player trades? Let me tell ya, they are crazy, take forever, tons of discussions back and forth, various teams are brought into and then out of the discussion. I can't say specifically how many discussions and possibilities are considered, but I bet less than 1 in 100 trades which are considered in great detail are ever consummated.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this whole thing Shane. I don't know if I've ever been this excited about a knife before. I am usually excited but with this one on the way I feel like a kid at Christmas. :)

<~~~~ friend #2

As it has been said, I'm glad we could (quickly & easily) come to an agreement. The sense of community on this forum is well beyond what I had thought when I first came around. Thank you gentlemen for contacting me! Yesterday was a whole lot of fun. My wife thinks I'm nuts but that's ok...

Now I just need a friend or two to help me get into a WF Wharnie! :-)

Cool Story. I had to draw it on one of my white boards to get the flow, I named the partners to the deal Mr. White, Mr. Black and Mr. Brown

Congrats to All maybe some pics all in one place from Mr. W/B/B when everything departs/arrives?? Be a nice follow-up to the story :)

My slice of the Hinderer threesome just arrived. I couldnt be any more excited! This thing is exactly what I hoped it would be. My pictures do it no justice at all. Ill take some better ones tomorrow after its all dressed up in some steel flame goodness. Thank you Shane and Chris! I hope that you guys are as happy with the trade as I am. :)

My 1/3 has arrived! Of course, I had to play dress-up and change things up a bit. It was a toss up between the 'ol go-to textured CF and the infamous Baby Poop scale. I opted for poop, not sure I'm sold just yet - may have to let it ferment for a bit..

The grind on this blade is nuts! The scale isn't quite so bright yellow looking, I may have overexposed a bit but I really like how this pic brings out the grind lines.. I may go back and go for a truer color shot..(edit - bottom pic is truer to actual color)

Side-by-side of the the deep swedge and normal (?) spearpoints, both are killer!

A little WF montage, would love to put a frag scale on the new one for consistency - either a light grey frag (white would be ideal for a July 4th composition) or a frag CF.

Another side-by-side to compare/contrast Pond w/ Poop :D

Full WF lockside shot..

Standing by for a little DLC wharnie and slicer action fellas!!

That is quite the trade. Can't wait to see the last third. That all black slicer is very very nice. I bet it would be cool with some Ti bronze hardware.
