Yesterday on another maker's site there's a post from one of the guys but has his daughter's name in the Title. Apparently she was home from school sick and went out into his shop and made 2 knifes from a damascus billet he had ready to make into some blades (drawn out and flattened) :D

Freaking hilarious... so he's on and posts about how she's being punished and she posts again apologizing.

Pretty good knives for her first 2... :p

Wow what a kid. Talk about motivated. She sure loves her Dad and knows him pretty well too. She's had to watch him pretty close to be able to be that accomplished with her second (first solo) cut and grind. I broke out in a big smile when I read, "he's a big softy and with lots of I loves you I'll probably be back in the shop in two weeks." What a hoot! Talk about spunk!

Thanks for posting it Will!

Thank You for Posting,
I have taught a few young people ages 14 to 17. Her Drive to make a knife is Good. Her Drive to make a Better knife is GREAT!!!!. This drive is something that has to come from the heart and that is Priceless.

That's an amazing story!!!!! :)
You know, deep down, Darci's Father is very proud of her!!!!

That was good! :)

I wish kids weren't typing in text all the time now-a-days... no caps, $hitty spelling... I guess "derf" means different now? lol

Neat story Will, thanks for passing it on, I missed it on Don's site!

Nick, the spelling problems that most youngsters have is due to the teaching methods employed over the last decade or so. They are taught to just put whatever they feel down and come back and edit the spelling and grammar. Most of us were taught (to varying degrees of success) to spell correctly, use correct grammar then fine tune the writing. My children's teachers argue that doing the "old fashioned" way stifles a child's imagination. I argue that teaching them rules and structure then allowing them to apply that to their imagination leads to better educated child. I've read papers from my 8th grade daughter's friends that make my eyes bleed and these are "A" papers. The work they turn out wouldn't be accepted by my 5th grade teachers.

Sorry for the rant... not to disrespect teachers but 2 of the stupidest humans I know are school administrators, both post graduate degreed and one with her Doctorate. Wouldn't trust them to plan a 2 car funeral.

1: The kid rocks. She's willing to get the punishment to make her father a knife. Sad about the damascus billet, I guess.
I'm *hoping* for this in 5 years from my son :D

2: The two worst grammarians I have ever met were both teacher's kids. The teaching of grammar and spelling is shameful in most schools. Still, consider the age of the person, she should improve dramatically.
