Basically I am not sure whether to get them in D2 or 1095. Currently all my fixed blades are 1095. However I will be using these for camping/hiking purposes and I am wondering whether the D2 is worth the slight price increase.

The thing I would ask myself would be is "Am I satisified with 1095 in my other knives?" If you are you might be well served with one of the Rats in 1095. My understanding of D2 as compared to 1095 is that it would maintain an edge longer but not be as quite as easy to sharpen.
All that being said if I already had alot of knives in 1095 I would probably try one in D2 to see how I liked it.

i have a RAT-7 in D2 and it's not that hard to sharpen...at home with an edgepro :D

field sharpening, if that's a consideration, is much easier with 1095.

I think D2 is a better steel for smaller knives; I wouldn't choose to get a RAT5 or 7 in D2 unless the increased stain resistence was my primary concern.

Yeah that's the thing I will be doing field sharpening on the RAT-7 most likely so how difficult it is to sharpen is an issue. However I have decided on 1095 since it has treated me well so far.
