When my FSH arrived I went through the normal new sharp toy arrives from Busse ritual: wow, this is awesome, the fit and finish are very good, and I cant wait to use it.
And then a strange thing happened: I noticed (to my horror) that I couldnt find a comfortable and secure way of holding the handle.
When my Magnum EU-17 arrived the handle and my natural grip position fit together perfectly, but with the FSH I couldnt get comfortable.
I tried closer to the blade, closer to the pommel, and then tried spreading my medium to small hand to cover more of the handle. Nothing felt comfortable.
And then something dawned on me: take the cues from the handle. I let the contouring of the handle reshape my grip (standard thickness handle). I moved my thumb in closer to my hand, and moved my first and second finger a little bit further forward (toward the blade).
What I ended up with is a grip that feels quite different to my natural grip, but that provides lots of comfort, security, and control.
I just spent an hour trimming some carob and pepper trees, and tidying up some fallen gum tree branches. The FSH was a pleasure to use, and my hand feels pretty good after the work.
The new grip position doesnt feel instinctive yet, but it made work and impact shock easy to bear. The Fusion handle shaped my fingers in a way that spread the load equally, and kept my wrist nice and relaxed.
Jerry, I dont know where/how/why the design for the Fusion handle came from, but very well done!
