For the guy who may own a Colt Sheriff's Model with the birds head grips, a modern fighter with 5-3/4" of S30V to go with it. Handle is White Paper Micarta.

Verrry cool! So, S30V takes a good finish, doesn't it? At least from the photo it looks good.

Only with difficulty. It is the most difficult to finish steel I've used. The above blade is etched and brushed to make it look a little less "shiney new". It also lets you see something of the fine grained nature of the steel.

This is probably the steel that will force me to buy a bead blasting cabinet, though. It's not fun to finish, and seems to have a deep and abiding affection for its scratches, since it gives them up only after a long and vigorous battle. :)

Very nice. That style of handle goes great with that fighter blade. I have not had the chance to try a knife with an S30V blade as of yet, but hope to in the near future. I do not care for most of the stainless steels because of their lack of toughness, but this one might just change my mind.

I agree, the S30V IS the toughest material I've worked with also. It seems to just repel trizact belts and wet/dry paper:eek:

I'm on my third blank right now. I figure it takes twice as much time and THREE times the sheet abrasive as D2 for my standard hand rubbed finish.
Where the HECK do those little scratches come from???

The grip on your knife looks great, as a matter of fact, so does the whole knife :)

With Burgundy Micarta, THAT beauty would make ME look just like Wyatt Earp:) :) :) :) ;) ;)
Sure is PURTY!!!!........wolf

First off, Jerry: nice piece... great looking grind.

For both Jerry & Neil Blackwood:

Is S30V any harder/ more laborious to finish than 440V or 420V?

I take it that S30V is definitely worse to finish than 3V...
