I have owned over 20 ten to twelve inch Bowie type knives. I was a jungle guide and wildlife photographr for many years in the Brazilian Rainforest. Of all the knives I used, my favorite was the Zero Tolerance Battle Mistress. I think that the Busse roots are definately "Combat Knives". I believe an expedition or combat knife should be relatively light-weight because we must carry so much other gear we don't want a heavy knife weighing us down. I sold my ZTBM (stupid) and am thinking about buying a Fusion BM. I know some of you Busse nuts drool over HOG (5/16th") versions but I, myself, would prefer a 3/16th" version. Let's call it a Light Ordinance Grade Fusion Battle Mistress or FBMLOG! For me that would probably be the perfect blade. Add on a magnum handle and we're really cookin'. I know the chances of a LOG BM coming out are extremely remote, but for those of us who are really users it would be greatly appreciated. I think some of the Military personnel just might agree with me as well. What do you guys think?

Alex, I agree that to thic can be an issue on light vegetation. However, let me explain the difference to you in edge terms.

Your Zero tolerance was 3/16 nch thick. My SHBM is 1/4 inch thick. However, my SHBM is actually thinner at the edge than your ZT and overall weight is not that much different. How you ask? Very simple, even though the overall Thickness of your ZT is 1/16 less than my SHBM, your ZT is saber ground, which brings that full thickness down to within 3/4 of an inch from the edge. Whereas my SHBM is flat ground from the Spine all the way to th edge. The angle on my Flat ground 1/4 inch blade is actually better for cutting lightvegetation than your ZT and I have proven it to myself many times over. My SHBM also cuts thorugh hardwoods a little better and binds less. So, believe it or not the flat ground blade is thinner than the saber ground thinner stock blade. That is why Flat ground blades are some of the best cutters IMO. I do like the ZT's, but the flat ground BM's are better in most departments IMO.

I have never had the pleasure to take into my hands a 1/4" BM. I only had a ZTBM. I am just a bit wary of buying a Fusion BM because in virtual shopping over the internet you can't get the real feel of a knife. I hope the FBM isn't too heavy. Thanks, Alex.

No regrets Alex, get one, if you don't like it, some hog or piglet will gladly take it off of your hands.

Actually, if Jerry does the FBM like he did the FSH, then you will have two thicknesses to choose from. 5/15 inch and under 1/4 inch. So you will get the thin blade you want. I will be getting both, the thicker and thinner models. But I doubt I will lay my SHBM to rest, when they arrive so they will become safe queens. I will use one to cmpare of course.

Jerry needs to make them more disposable, like out of 1095 or Carbon V so we can replace them every once in a while when they break.

Yup because it happens so often... :jerkit: ;) Short of Cliff Stamps merry escapades and the guy that shot one of his blades with a .223 or .308 and all it did was put a hole similar to the talon hole, not sure I've ever heard of one failing. There is even a story of a LEO who was carrying is Badger was shot and all that happened was some scratching on the finish. I believe this is the pic, if not can someone correct?

well, if you actually use INFI hard you will eventually have to sharpen it :jerkit:

It is nice that it does take forever to blunt. I can say honestly that I have blunted all my other blades with one full days worth of hardwood chopping. A full day is about 6-7 hours worth of chopping. I have never blunted a BM with a several full days of chopping and I submit the BM's to other things besides chopping, namely throwing. they are the only knives I throw because I have had so any other steels snap on me when I throw them that I do not trust any other knife to throwing. . The other knives include 1095, 5160, 0170, D2, ATS34, 440C, 52100 and some others. So my experience is limited, but I am still impressed with INFI's edge retention versus sharpening ease. It is very unusual to have both.

We display that blade at every Indy show.

There were only shards of the Okuden rig left, and have been lost/mispalced over the years.

Alex, we all are feverously awaiting the FBM. I know a ton of hogs who will put that bad boy through the paces and hopefully post pix of the (ab)use.

nuts to 3/16th. 1/2" or nothin :)

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that would like a full flat 3/16 BM.
That would be awesome!

I have the HOFSH and it is an awesome knife but I'm realizing that I'm a .25" kind of person so I will definitely be ordering the FBM instead of the HOFBM. I'm sure the HOFBM is going to be a massive hunk of Infi, cock desiel for sure.

I agree, I will get both, but I am sure I will prefer the thinner model for hard use.

Gentlemen, do we even know if an HO version of the BM will be available.
I hope so as much as anyone else, but I don't think we know for certain.

that is true... there has been a hog version of the steal heart, and the satin jack - both of wich were some of the most popular from the last series of knives. i would assume that because they have done it twice now, and becuase the battle mistress was so popular, having gained so much attention in a hog version that they would put it out....

but they might not... perhaps they will only have an LE version.... perhaps not even that. that would certainly be interesting....

The question is not 3/16", 1/4" or whatever ./..".... BUT WHEN :foot: april....may.... :D plz let it be april pleeeeeaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee im just feelin a bit :barf: ....i need my INFI-fix to make me :D
