Hello all
I am looking to purchase my first few Busses and could use a little help. I want to start with a med and a small blade. Medium just for camping etc and a small for just pretty much small stuff lol. I live in a FL so wont be needing to chop too much wood, just looking for some advice.
Thanks and I think my wallet is starting to bleed

What blade lengths do you consider small and medium?

Two good buys with what you plan on using them for would be the Sarsquatch and the Culti. The Sarsquatch is not that heavy, and since you wont be chopping it will make a great camp tool. The Culti is small and light enough you can piggyback it on the sheath and use it for wood craft or food prep. The Sarsquatch isnt a pretty knife in my eyes, but it gets the job done and can be found for a good price. This is all just my my opinion, and I am sure other will tell you to go another way. For what I do, both those blades, size wise atleast fit the bill well. You could also swap the Sarsquatch with the skinny ASH1 if you can find one for a good price. I like the ASK 1 better myself.

Gets what's available at the company store. The NMSFNO is 8" and still available, the SAR4 is 4 3/4" and will be available soon in Pumpkin (Black and Orange) G-10. Too bad the best IMO mid-sized blade, the Skinny ASH (6.5"), is recently out of stock. There are a ton of nice blades on the exchange though! The AD (Acive Duty) and the Cultellus are the 2 best small blades, once again IMO.

Have fun!!!

There's so much on the Exchange it's ridiculous ... and for excellent prices.

For the mid-sized, try to hold out for an ASH 1. It shouldn't be long for one pops up for a good price. If the wait bugs you, look for the next SAR4 (as has already been mentioned).

So many excellent choices for the small knife: GW, AD (or BAD), of Culti are all perfectly good choices.

Hang in there.

I saw a couple skinny ASH1's for like $300 with black micarta mag scales. Thats not bad. The exchange is flooded with Busse blades at the moment, you should have no problem finding some good deals in there. You should be able to find an ASH1 and Culti for around $500 for both, and thats not bad. They will be the only two knives in those size ranges that you will ever need, now wanting more is a whole other story.

I agree! Wait for the SAR4 or get the NMSFNO from the Busse Company Store. I wouldn't recommend the exchange board until you're more familiar with all the Busse knives and prices.

Scrapyard Knives is offering a pretty neat knife, the Scrapper 5.
SR101 steel, 5.25" blade, 10.25 aol, approx 3/16", three different resiprene handle colors, and five blade colors. $99.95 you can't really beat that.

:eek::Dwelcome, aboard !!! KEEP an Eye on Those credit cards, they may die from heat stroke .. .

My favorite midsize Busse is the SAR5. It is a choil-less design with 5" blade. You could probably pick one up at $300 or below... there are some pretty good deals on the exchange right now.

Here is a comparison with a SAR5, BATAC (LE), and Strait handled Satin Jack.

Not the best photography... but notice how the SAR5 is a shorter overall length than the BATAC but has more overall blade length due to the lack of a choil.

Welcome!
Just start buying INFI. You'll figure out the details as time goes by. :D

I just got into Busse not long ago and am a small/medium blade kind of guy. I really love the Game Warden and it has become my EDC blade. I like it so much I got 5!!! I'm also waiting for my SAR4 to arrive which I think might be the perfect size blade. I'm still waiting for my first really big smash and destroy blade. One thing I can say is that whichever one you get first, it won't be your last!!! Welcome!

I got my first Busse back in March, it was a Sage warden. I EDC'd it for about 3 weeks before getting a BAD. Nothing I can imagine will take the place of my BAD as my primary EDC, not even my Sebenza..... I actually bought an SMF last week, thinking it would be the perfect tough EDC, and I traded it within a week..... FOR A BATTLE MISTRESS! I realized that if your looking for though, you find it with Busse knives. Plus, the BAD cuts like a straight razor, and holds its edge better than any knife I have ever owned.

As for the medium blades, I picked up a Skinny ASH because of everyone's high praise for the knife. For hiking knife, it is perfect. It is light, tough, has a very practical blade shape, and is optimized for damn near everything. The only negative is that its too light for real chopping. The CG version with thick INFI would be better suited, or for that matter a NMSFNO, for chopping. I like that the blade is perfectly balanced on my Skinny ASH, you can almost use it like a smaller blade for whittling, carving and it throws well to boot!

I am waiting for the CGFBM to come this week, and when it does.......the local trees will shudder. I plan on taking the Skinny ASH's edge thinner now that I have a beast to do all my chopping needs, and I beleive that with a tad thinner edge it will be the PERFECT camping/hunting knife.

I agree with this,as you can always sell and buy and have fun.
Busse, swampRat &Scrapyard folks are the best people on the planet
as are the knives!!
Welcome to the addiction!

I'd think the best choice for a small slicer would be the BAD (boney active duty) 3.5" blade ,,,, .12 thick. Mine has black/blue G-10. Excellent small blade very good EDC if your local laws allow fixed blades.

For a mid-size I'd suggest the skinnyASH1 . 6.5" blade ,,, .18 thick ....green/ black micarta . A great allarounder. If a little longer and thicker is what your after the NMSFNO is real nice. 8" blade,,,,, .25 thick. It's the top one sage/black micarta.

Hell ,,,,,,,,, they're all good choices,,,,if you purchase something that just doesn't *feel* right,,,, you can always sell it on the exchange and buy something a little different.....Have Fun !!!!!!!!!!

BTW: The ones I've suggested are fairly new models,,,,,so they haven't become rediculously overpriced...yet.

+1... sometimes one just doesn't feel right to you. I've lost track of the blades I've bought, and for whatever reason, just weren't right for me. So... back to the trough they go. Most of the time you can get your money back.

my personal favs for a small are...
Game Warden
Active Duty
Meaner Street

mid sized...
skinny ash since chopping is not on ye ol to do list...
if chopping was added nmsfno

the sar 4 is gtg also

good luck...OH, and BTW...whichever you choose, it will probably be ok and work....BUT, it will never be good enough...and SOOOOO thee quest for INFI will continue and thrive!
BEWARNED!!!!!

It really is amazing the excuses you can come up with to convince yourself(as if its needed) the reason you NEED a new Busse!!
