I know that the 01 steel 71's were a Two year run. Their numbers are dwindling and I am curious if you all think the combination of a lack of production, better(?) steel and classic lines would add up to a more highly sought version of the sodbuster.

I currently have an orange delrin, and a black delrin and maroon micarta due in today. I know where to find some others and I am not sure if I should pick them up and keep them BNIT to sell/trade later on.

What are your thoughts?

2 year run actually. 2012 and 2013 71's were all O1 steel. Only this most recent run of 2014's is 1095 steel. I'd like to see them go back to the O1 steel though, it really is good stuff.

I could be wrong here but I'm pretty sure that all the Bullnoses, even those produced in May of 2014, are 01 tool steel. There are other Farm and Field knives that have been switched over to 1095 this year, such as the Bullbuster and the 99, but as of yet I think the bullnose has only been 01. Would love to hear some clarification on this from those in the know.

There were some Bull Nose #71s made this year that were O1 steel.

I'm not home so I'll have to check later but the 2014 Bullnoses I have I'm pretty sure are 01. When searching the www I've found 2014's with 01 steel but not 1095. Ay idea if any were made with that steel?

Well, I had looked all through GECs 2014 production lists on their public web site and those for the 71 specifically, and they don't even show that they made any 71s at all during the year, but I have seen them for sale that definitely had the 715114 label on them. Were they all SFOs? I know some were, for CK.net. No, I guess not, I see them or the remnants of prior sales scattered around different dealers. I guess GEC hasn't kept their web site up to date with all prior production runs. Everything I saw was O1.

I think you guys are right. I was thinking of the #99 farmer lock, which some dealers have in both O1 from the 2013 run, and 1095 from the 2014 run.

I thought that there was a mixture of Mike's SFO's in the various micartas and then some orange, black and green canvas micarta regular production run. I, too, could not find any info on GEC's site regarding 2014 runs....interesting. I would be shocked if they produced a Bullnose in 1095 and I didn't know about it, well..shocked and embarrassed since it' my favorite production of my favorite pattern:D

So to answer Bill's question - I'm sure the dealers would be happy if you buy out their remaining stock of 71s, but as to whether they go up significantly in value remains to be seen. They may roll out another big run of them next year for all we know.

And yeah, I'd be real surprised if anything in that pattern was out there without Trevor knowing about it. :)

Yes, yes...buy up the remaining stock so they will do another run soon:D Maybe with some new handles!!

HA!!:) I've had some slip by my radar but I usually catch it quick...it's an illness now.

Ok, so have we reached a consensus? Keep my black delrin and maroon micarta BNIT and hope to sell/trade later on or are they Just users?

Maybe the marron micarta, it's a bit more rare, but the black delrins are plenty abound, not sure I see those as collectible unless it's a proto. If they come out in 1095, I'd probably hold on to one of those for a bit in case they make the move back to 01, then the 1095 is a rarity.

I am currently looking for the green micarta version, but that one seems to be harder to come by... From pics it seems to be near an OD green if not than close, maybe pea colored.

The maroon is nice, a really dark maroon that shows the red hints in the light. I will see if I can get a good pic tonight. Maybe I'll grab another, one for myself and one to hold onto.

Whats your take on the nifebrite?

bigfatty you have email

The nifebrite is pretty cool, what's not to love about a glow in the dark knife? I have noticed that the nefibrite bullnoses are slightly thinner than the others. You can see this in this picture of some of mine together. Also, the micartas are my favs:D

The canvas in the natural shows incredibly well! I also like the red, I have more than green to get my hands on...

I believe the maroon linen micarta were a regular production run. They were offered by several vendors to my recollection.
