future knives

I was wondering if SOG has any plans for producing a moderate sized (3" blade) knife suitable for EDC in the near future. I mean a knife with a drop point blade or something - not a Tanto or some other weird geometrical blade like the Vision. I mean I like the looks of the Vision, but I'd like to see something like a sogwinder or a drop point autoclip with an Arc lock and a steel pocket clip. Just something that would be more versatile and suitable for every day needs.
I just got my PE14 and I love it, but I want something smaller for EDC. And the mini Vision, while looking great, has that blade that's great for punching holes in things, but what about just slicing ... ?
How about it, Ron? ;)

Hi Tim,

We make our public announcement of new products annually at the SHOT Show. "SOG Blackworks" ;) is working behind closed doors, making some outstanding new products for the coming year.

I can say, we've listened to our customers and have some exciting new blade designs in the works!

Hi There Ron!

The term "Sog Blackworks" must be a buzz word in the industry by now, what with all that new range you were talking about! I figure that's why you had that poll out not too long ago. In all that hive of activity, I hope your Chief Designer takes in all the sleep he can get.

I hope to see a fixed blade! A tanto blade fully serrated. Okay! Okay! Actually I was hoping it to be an up graded or modernized Sog Bowie. Stainless and blacken (not gray!) I hope it comes in a thermoplastics sheath, it's so much more durable that way. And that it's within the reach of everyone budget. Oh, and here's a suggestion Obi Ron - why not label ROC instead of Tai-wan if its going to be made there. Personally, it sure does sound better!

I'm not going to touch this one. Politics isn't my strong point! I'm not sure that Taiwan shares this sentiment.

The official name for Taiwan is "Republic of China" (as opposed to "People's Republic"). There is some complicated history to this, including the fact that the Taiwan government is the successor to a government that used to rule all of China (and sometime still claims to be the legitimate government). Sometimes the native Taiwanese get irritated with the focus on China and wish they were unrelated.

The important thing, of course, is to keep the PRC contained, and to support Taiwan politically and economically (i.e. buy a few more Recon Bowies, or whichever knife that was). Does SOG have any other knives from Taiwan?

Hummm, I didn't know ROC was a Taiwanese-related term. I thought I referred to Mainland China...that does show my lack of political knowledge.

Regarding what SOG products are being made in Taiwan, that could currently be the
Outline.
