Sal,

Are there any plans for upper end Left Handed or True Ambidextrous models?

Left Temperance?

Navigator G-10 redesign with ambi clip and machined clip well? Please?

Left Salsa?

G-10 Delica, FRN shape?

g-10 Spur, G-10 redesign with ambi clip and machined clip well? Please?

I guess what I am really looking for is an ultimate lefty. Something like the Temperance or Salsa, but built for off hand manipulation, with all of the value added features of the higher end models.

This is the one area that Spyderco, an otherwise stellar company, is sorely lacking. Sure all the FRN models are ambi, but there are zero top end folders that are lefty usable. Other companies manage to drill holes on the other side of the knife so at least the clip can be switched, but for some reason this isn't done by Spyderco. I, for one, would be buying several of spydie's top end models if they were at least vaguely ambi....

#3- I think a great deal of the situation is based on a couple of issues.

Spyderco's higher end models have locks that are handed, not ambi.

and...

Spyderco does not want to do things halfway. They were working on the Compression Lock for years, to make sure that it was right.

But, as I stated, I think it is time for a true ambi or a left in a higher end model.

The compression lock is usable left handed, some might even say that it's easier to use left handed, which makes it more mysterious why we don't see spyderco drilling for a lefty clip option...Since a lot of the newer knives are coming with the compression lock, it seems like a minor tweak to allow for a reversible clip...
I have a Salsa with a compression lock and it is great left handed, and the clip is reversible, but it's not really one of their top-end knives (even though I like it very much).

Sadly, the amount of attention this thread has gotten leads me to believe we'll continue to be left out of the enjoyment of the upper end of spyderco's line for a long time to come....

Noticed it today...

Looking at the high end models I'll be grabbing this fall, only the Salsa and 'kat(if that counts) are leftie.

Not really much in the line for left compliments for right carry. Stuck with either a Salsa or FRN model...

I too would love some nicer lefty models. I always carry a lefty (even though I'm right handed) for weapon retention purposes. I'd love a lefty (fully serrated).

I love Spydies...but now carry a BM in my left pocket. I wish they had not dropped the ball on this. I seem to recall Sal saying the demand was not there...but it's a chicken egg thing to me. Swiss cheese them...please. I know I've spent lots of $$$ in the past year...none on Spydies. I like matching sets...so...BM it is. (Except for my Strider GB :) )

Please...........

The various knife manufacturers state that there is "no interest in left handed knives". If they believe this then what we have to do is inform them that there IS a great deal of people that would like to see and would purchase said knives. If this is not done then they will continue to believe that it is not in their best interests to back such a project. Ultimatly they are in business to make money and if they think they will lose money on left handed knives, they will not put the time, money or effort into research and development.
Therefore, what we as left handed people need to do is assure the companies that there is such a demand for left handed/ambidexterous knives. We all know that they monitor these forums, so if we continue to post messages saying that we would buy left handed knives it could make the difference between seeing your favourite models in this configuration or not. So even if you just post saying "I agree", it's a big help.
Come on people unite and we could all reap the benefits.

p.s. I AGREE.

And the thing is, they don't even have to make "left-handed knives", though that'd be great. They just have to have an ambi friendly lock and drill 3 extra holes for the clip or arrange for it to be switched somehow.... seems a cheap and simple way to attract 10% (or more) of the knife-buying population to your product line. Spyderco's halfway there by using the compression lock, but they still ignore the clip switching on upper-end models. Is it really that troublesome to drill for the clip in the other side?

I think a left handed model is the perfect platform for testing the new CAD/CAM technology.

A computer can figure the mirror coordinates of any shape, so almost all of the proto-typing can be done with a computer.

Then, with the parts already mapped out, very small batches can be made.

Then a true left of anything can be made.

But, on a more regular note.

Take the BladeForums Native. Completely Ambidextrous. Push come shove I will re-acquire one.

But, let us strategize a new knife.

Let us take the old Spur handle, add a clip point blade, or even a drop point with a slightly thinner point. G-10 handles, machined with clip wells for a ambi clip. VG-10 or 230V. New model, totally ambi, higher end.

One of the main reasons I purchased a Massad Ayoob folder was that the clip can be switched to the left. It is a shame you can't get other models like the Police (they did have a leftie model once) in leftie versions.

Who wants the Leftie police? I'd get it, but the size is off for my off-side carry.

Gin-1 steel(G-2)
SS scales
Serrated
Leftie
$188 CANADIAN(currently it's 1.56 Cad=1 USD, you can do the math)

Just call my supplier about it. Thier info is on my sig.

Or a variation of a current knife.

Take the Delica.

You could use the blades, rockerlocks and springs that are already being made. VG-10 is an excellent steel.

Machine G-10 handles, of a slightly thicker stock, to make the machined clip wells stronger, and give the knife a slightly more substantial feel.

Assemble with 6-lobe fasteners.

Voila, a upper end Delica. Greater durability, more substantial feel, longer lifespan due to better clip situation.

And you could make it of green to match the Temperance.

I would LOVE to have a "Lefty" version of my Chinook (and maybe even stretch the blade to 5 inches!)..

As it is now, I'm looking into having the pocket-clip changed over to the "other side" (AND for "tip-up" carry...That way the "stock" clip can be used).
