I travel quite a bit, well, less now than in the past few years, but
there will still be some international travel.
With all the hub bub of the recent bomb attempt, they are planning
on using body scanners in the airports to try and SEE things? on your body
plus your body, ugh....scary, right away I related that to the old movie
with Arnold, Total Recall, where when he ran through a corridor that was
an x-ray screening you see his skeleton with his weapon in red, that was
20 years ago ;)

SO, I thought, why not take a cue from another movie?
Fifth Element, when they are taking off to the planet, the flight attendants
flipped a switch which puts you to sleep during your trip, hows that for
a controlled flight :)

Ya never know what they will think of next, but I'm not looking forward to the
long lines for the security we will now be put through :(

Everyone I know who travels internationally avoids the USA as much as possible. Its just not worth the hassle.

The only time they go through US customs is when they are on their way out, and when they return home. All other travel is through other countries.
It really is kind of sad that it has become that way.

Esav, yes, it is a fun flick, like how Bruce negotiates ;)

and Samurai, gotta agree, travel through other airports seems
a bit faster to me, been through many many airports!

I was planning a trip to the USA with my family this year, but with 2 young children - it's simply not worth the hassle.

i gave up on flying. now if it is absolutely necessary than i will fly like to Hawaii or something. but for example, instead of flying to MN this last summer we drove. it was a lot of fun stopping at places along the way. and seeing friends who had moved between here and there. albeit it was a long 2 weeks.

I traveled to the States recently and I was surprised just how hassle free it was. I applied for my new 10 year VISA and although the application is fairly lengthy I had the entire process complete in 3 weeks.

I stated, on both my VISA application and when I entered the US in LA, that my primary reason for entering the US was to attend the Knifemakers Guild Show. It never even raised an eyebrow......

Although I presented my South African Passport as ID at 4 US airports I was never singled out or additionally questioned once......

The worst part about traveling by air inside the US is frankly the poor service from the airlines. I have flown on most of them but this time it was exclusively with United. One could not complain about the service as there was none to begin with!

As for the body scanners it does not bother me at all.........Frankly I welcome all additional security measures in place for my safety.

When I went though customs in China, they use thermal imagers that everyone must pass through, the reasoning was it shows body temperature,so sick people don't fly. It was a pretty detailed image though.

I have flown to a number of locations in Asia over the last few years and fly back home to the UK at least once a year.
The UK is probably the worst/best (depends on how you look at it) but there are places in Asia like Macau that are still like it was in the "old days".
Thailand has some pretty tough security one month then it's not too bad a few months later. I think that's more to do with their peak tourist times.

It's easy to feel inconvenienced by it all but at the end of the day it is for our own good.

I feel violated by them body scanners, haven't gone through one yet but i am constantly traveling so its a matter of time...i want a damn boat then screw the planes!

The airlines are doing everything wrong...and they know it.

They will all be bankrupt if they don't change their attitudes.

And the bastards have earned it.

Airline travel is becoming too much of a chore, and has me thinking about driving instead of flying. I may make changes to my holiday plans and add a couple of nights on route to my destination by staying in nice hotels along the way. Make the trip leisurely, and enjoy some stops along the way.

I have family in the Philippines and try to visit asoften as my finances permit.Hassle is not too bad and would willingly go thru any as long as they catch bomb wielders!!

Went to S Africa & Aus last year, will do Argentina, Uruguay and possibly S Africa this year. Really noticed very little change, and no hassle except LA and that was because of the lines. Don't like going through Miami with guns though, I always get someone with an agenda
