What do you see happening to the knife world in 10, 20, 50 or 100 years?

One word... Lightsaber:D

There won't be knives of any kind. Just the internet and people posting stupid things on it.

I'm not really sure what's going to happen, I'd assume better steels but I can't imagine too much more than that. I can't see lightsabers coming out in 100 years, remember the year 2000 horsecrap....what happened...nothing. Well music just literally died but thats about it.

Now the year 3000...lightsabers and jetpacks for sure.

I've always pictured a soft, tough, lightweight spine (titanium or the like) with a very hard edge made of something like Tungsten Carbide slotted into it in such a way that it can be easily replaced. Something like Kershaw's composite blades, only instead of fusing the two materials together, the spine would be milled to accept the edge piece and retain it with a pin or screw at the bottom near the handle. You'd get a very lightweight blade with an edge much harder than steel, and sharpening wouldn't be a concern because you could replace the edge for a reasonable price when it dulls.

Whatever happens, it's probably going to be expensive. Dammit.

Nylon,FRN infused with diamond dust blades. In reality anything other than rounded off kitchen utensils will probably be banned.

That's right!

Super steels, that you can easily sharpen (or is that just wishing and hoping on my part). More synthetic handle materials, and synthetic handle materials created to look like wood/stag/horn etc. Probably a ban on all organic handle materials. Wild looking damascus.

I would love to be around to see lightsabres. Can't wait to see the "my lightsabre bit me!" threads.

Probably most knives are tampered with back springs of trucks... the high end knives of the time. Most knives are made whatever scrap metal you have. We live in post apocalyptuic fallout desert, in world world reminding the fall out games / mad maxes. This is my vision from 100 years of now...

The Force is strong in this one!

If they manage a portable cutting laser, could be interesting.

Otherwise I don't expect much change. Mostly refinements.
After all, there haven't exactly been any quantum leaps in knives over the last 2000+ years, so it's not likely in the next 100.

Maybe the reinventing of some older methods....like Bill Moran did in reviving damascus.

If today's trends continue then this is the most likely scenario.

In 50 years people will talk of the good old days when most knives had sharp edges and pointy tips.

In 100 years people will be able to look at sharp pointy knives through glass at museums.

If I could have it my way then, in the future, I will be able to cut objects with the power of my mind and the small computer chip inserted into my retina. Somewhat similar to Superman's heat vision, but the computer chip wont allow the eye laser to accidentally cut through human flesh.

knives that never need to be sharpened, handle materials that are super strong yet super lightweight. locks that are so strong the breaking strength is impossible for a human to achieve. the future looks bright :D

definitely new materials for handles etc..

expect your handle to be green, have antioxidants and be high in omega 3's!

Infusing your hand bones with adamantium will be all the rage. It will be like "waving" your Spydie nowadays.
