Hey a guy asked me to make him a knife--he wants a knife that he can use in his work (he's LEA)--I want to make him a pretty cool knife but I dont want the handle to bein wood--Im looking for a non slippery option--I have ordered someG10 and rubberized G10 from jantz supply but have never used it--would it be OK as a nonslip option?

It depends on how smoothly it is polished. G10 can be really rough or it can be smooth and shiny. I have no experience with the rubberized stuff though.
Yeah, this is what I've noticed. I have G-10 that feels super smooth, and real rough, grippy, sandpaperish G10, like on the Yojumbo. I think it is warranted in that case. Yojumbo never gonna slip out of my hand.

This Rat is like a handfull of sandpaper.....

That 1-A looks sweet. Has it been reliable for you? I have an orange RAT1, wanted to get the 1A, but was scared off by a potential spring failure. It's made out of Nylon 6, though.
Did you mean to post this in this thread?

Its orange G10, the regular Rat1 is nylon.....

Yea David Mary uses it quite a bit it seems like. I carried a knife of his for a week on a passaround and it's pretty sweet stuff. It feels solid like regular g10 but has those black layers of rubber in it that gave it a real nice grip. It's cool because you get the grip without the flexiness (technical term) of rubber and the like. I wouldn't mind getting a knife in it someday.

Suretouch is a fantastic option, and my first choice for user knives. G10 is also great stuff, and while contoured G10 is indeed more slippery than contoured rubber or Suretouch, it can provide more than enough grip if the other handle design aspects line up right with the intended use (and therefore grip) of the knife. I like using G10 and adding contours and/or texturing. In cases like this G10 has more than enough grip for most uses, I think.

Apologies if this is irrelevant, but I find ergonomics to be quite crucial as well in preventing slip, in addition to anti slip textures. As long as the handle is shaped well for the human hand (I personally like the BK-16 and Spydie Manix 2), I believe it would serve your friend well.

I’d love to see WIP and the final product! Good luck on making the blade.

Agreed. Ergos make the biggest difference. Ive had knives with scales that were basically sandpaper but because of the ergos you could never maintain a good grip. Vice versa too, I’ve got knives that could fall in a tub and Vaseline and still feel like they’re taped to my hand when I pick them up.

Your handle design will be more of a factor for non-slip than the actual material.

If you get that right the handle material ads to that factor but should not be the main factor.

And the end of that pass around, I ended up buying that very knife from David. I can say that having been through the hands of many members who spared it no punishment, those scales were in great condition when it came to me, and I love the feeling of them. Suretouch definitely lives up to the hype, at least in my mind.
