Has anyone seen G10 used for the back spring of a slip joint knife? I am prototyping a slip joint and it got me wondering if it has suitable elasticity for this use. thoughts?

Interesting idea, but I would guess it would wear too quickly and loosen up when you have a plastic backspring rubbing against a metal blade. Who knows though, give it a try.

G10 is used for mechanical applications when outstanding strength, stiffness, and excellent creep resistance are required.
It could certainly work with a steel insert to protect rubbing parts.

I highly doubt it would outmatch a steel spring. Tried and proven, and all that. To know for sure, there's actually only one thing to do : try it ! Could be interesting. However, I sincerely think your knife would be better with a steel spring but, due to the mechanical qualities of G10, you could do away with the liners. You could even do away with the spring and do a friction folder with a one piece G10 handle and Piemont lever blade. I'd be your first customer !

Interesting thought! Curious if someone has done this before.

Have done some testing? Putting some stress on it and leave it for x amount of time, or make a jig that forces the g10 up and down for x times.
