G-10 handles or FRN Handles

I like the Feel of G-10 better. To me it just feels tougher, more secure. Kinda military like, you know? And I like that! :D

Yeah thank you guys. Reason I was asking is that last night I was looking for a backup knife. One of the main thing was not to have serrations on the blade. So many of you recommended Benchmade 551 which is a really nice blade. Still my eyes have fallen on the Buck Strider blade. There are two versions and one with VG10 grips has serrations while the one with FRN doesn't and price difference is about $10. I really hate serrations but that Buck with VG10 handles seems pretty damn solid. What ya all think?

G-10 handles...not VG10...that is a blade steel. Easy to confuse I know! :)

Go with the G-10, it is well worth the extra bit of cash.

You know I really love my griptilian, but the handles are the it's biggest let down. They just feel like plastic. They sound like it too.

My next knife will be g-10 or micarta or anything besides FRN.

yeah, G10 is good, but remember, the G10 on the Buck-Striders is extremely rough on your hands and pants-pockets. it feels like roch-hard 50-grit sandpaper. you've been warned ;)

G10 - impervious to almost everything. Hard and gritty - fantastic grip. $$$

FRN - still pretty tough, smoother, lighter, and less expensive.

New Graham has both knives. One that has G10 and one that uses FRN. Although the non serrated one comes in FRN handle scales only. You are correct in that Buck may not have it has an option for the non serrated. However, the EBay listing does show it as exclusive to the seller and the police model in particular. Not sure of the veracity of that although it would have been a pain to swap several knives with G10 just for exclusivity. It quite possibly be a special police model specially commissioned from Buck to be made to be sold by that seller. *shrug*

Ok the guy is in Queens NY and I'm in Brooklyn so it's not that far to get stuff straight. I emailed him anyway just to make sure...

i very much prefer the G10 to FRN, G10 is stronger and to me looks 10X better, FRN looks cheap. a knife will have to offer some very inovative features unavailable elsewhere and only found on FRN handle knives before i ever buy another FRN knife, irregardless of the price.

G-10 all the way. Buck and Spyderco, and some other makers, tend to put a VERY rough texture on it. You can use the handle like sand paper! Anyway, you can knock down the grit a bit on textured handles with some light sanding and it makes a big difference.

FRN all the way!

Er, no not really, I just felt like it wasn't getting any votes. FRN does feel light and cheap. And it is light and cheap. So that's both good and bad.

very true. but before you do such a thing make sure you've got some quality breathing-mask on your face and a properly ventilated area. G10 is highly toxic and has nasty fibres that kill your lungs. beware.

I must agree with chucklehead though, micarta is even better, especially of the semi-rough kind, usually found on knives like TOPS.
