I just picked up a perfect condition Harpy, but it is in G-10, not like one of the current production pieces. Exactly how rare is this one? I really like it, but I don't want to carry it if it is something that might be valuable, and if it isn't that rare, I might want to pick me up another, it is quite sweet.

That's one of the nicest general carry pieces Spyderco ever made. Sal himself has said he thought they would sell large numbers of them but they just didn't go. I carry one clipped to the pocket of my jeans or shorts or whatever I'm wearing. All my other knives get rotated; the G-10 Harpy goes everywhere. Sure, some people like them because they think they could use them for defense but I see them as ideal utility knives. I almost always carry "another" knife that has some belly for those jobs that a Harpy just wouldn't do. But you would be amazed how useful that sharp little tip really is. And I'm always cutting string, rope, big nasty weeds in the fence, etc.

They were fairly expensive until the final closeout. Many of us got our for only around $40. I see them on Ebay all the time (Got to Collectable and search for Spyderco). Enjoy it. Buy another one for a spare!

Dutch auction? I read a little about what it means on Ebay. Doesn't anyone have anything nice to say about us???

Another lesson learned! Too bad most colloquial proverbs or sayings in english make us look cheap! Hehe, then again, we are!
Hey, if you ain't Dutch you ain't much!

Yeah, the G-10 version is one of my daily carry choices these days. They still can be found for under $40 on ebay, too.

I'm yet to see or feel the G-10 Harpy. Its a beautiful piece which was discontinued by Spyderco. The lighter Merlin was a more affordable and robust replacement IMHO. Only the SS Harpys are maintained... Wish I could get my hands on a plain-edged G-10 harpy!!

I still am baffled as to why the G-10 Harpy did not sell as well as the other handled options. IMO, it affords the user the best grip of the three versions. Another plus is the black clip which is positioned so the knife will carry low in your pocket (=discrete carry).

I think it would make a good companion to the G-10 Police (plain edge). It looks like they were made for each other (a set?) and it seems they would be able to handle almost any cutting task you may encounter.

I'm glad I got mine.

Still hoping that there will be a big-brother to the Harpy coming in the future. A Harpy-XL in G-10 would absolutely rule my daily-carry choices!!!

(I would be willing to accept a FRN handle as an alternative, though)

I am just in the process of getting one from another forumite. I have been thinking of getting a harpy or merlin for a while. I like the idea of the G-10. I hope I like it.
