G-10 Native, why not?

Hi all!

I just got a new Al Mar sere2k this weekend but I am sad to find that I don't like the feeling of this knife in my hand, and my search for a EDC knife is still not finished...
Currently I am looking at the Native, it has a great blade and I like spyderco hole.
What stoped me to place an order is the handle material -- I don't like FRN, especially when my hand get sweaty. I learned that there was a very limited run for blue G-10 native for only 300, and it's hard to find now.
So why spyderco doesn't want to put a G-10 native in regular production line?

Another question is, how much difference does the s30v make compared with 440v?

Thanks.

I agree, the G-10 Native is a great knife. I own two of the blue BladeForums models. Actually, the FRN Native is also a great knife, in either the original or the new 3D version. And then there is always the SS version.

A point of information, there were actually about 700 of the blue G-10 Natives manufactured. Here's a quote from Sal Glesser:

"In total there were actually approximately 700 of the Blue Natives made. The first 200 which were numbered 00 - 200 were for our Collector's program. The Collector's receive the first of everything we produce. The other 500 were originally for Blade Forums but it was determined the quanitity was to large for the interest so we engraved 300 for Blade Forums and sold the remaining 200 to a few dealers and through our local outlet. The 300 Blade Forum pieces were the only ones engraved with Blade Forums logo. The others were sold as the C41GPSBL, Blue Native."

There are also black G-10 versions with either blue or root beer color inlays. I'm not sure how many of these were produced - maybe someone else can help with the numbers.

Keep watching the "For Sale" Forum. They come up for sale occasionally.

I have asked that question many times.I own 4 G10 Natives
blue pe
blue SE
black pe shell inlay
black rootbeer shell inlay
If you want a G10 shell inlay I think John f Jensen has a couple of them in stock for 80.00.
There were only 500 of the inlay Natives made.

Lets not make it in G-10 all the time. My reason:

Price. The Native gives you S30V steel for cheap. It is amazing performance in a very cheap package. It's the best steal in a great package and the FRN is grippy enough. If you want G-10 handles and S30V why not try the Chinook? Or Military?? Or Gunting?? They are all great models. G-10 is great, but only in limited runs for the Native. Lets keep that price down.

Hi u812, I just checked his website, it says they are blue FRN with perl inlay, is it a typo?

I really think you are right but I wish spyderco would do a small run of G10 Natives in black or desert tan.

That is a typo on his site, probably why he still has some. They are black G10 with blue shell inlay. There is a pic of one in my avatar.

I think there is no problem with a limeted run. ( As long as it doesn't get in the way of our Calypso Jr. run that is ;) )

I just got a picture of the shell inlaid g10 native, I think I would prefer plain g10 handle for better grip.

If you are worried that the shell will be slippery don't be.I have had no problems at all with the shell inlay Natives wanting to slip.
