I was wondering if Spyderco ever made a G-10 Native? I was thinking that in my internet searches a while back that I came across one but have not been able to find anything since. Perhaps I was looking at another knife while contemplating the Native. Let me know.

I would love to see a G-10 Native with a satin finish s30v plain edge blade, that would more pretty quickly to the top of my want list.

I believe it was a blue G10 forum native.I've seen a few for sale though none lately.I'm sure some of the spyderco afficinados will be along to offer more help than I.

1gailt is correct, the Native was made in blue G-10 as a sprint run. The forum knives didn't sell out, so there were quite a few sold without the engraving. They show up with or without engraving on EBay from time to time.

UK Ken also has links to the other collectors sites. They are very very impressive as well. I said about Ken's site because IIRC Native is one of his favorites.

The BladeForums Blue Native was a sprint run that was, I think, a test run for Spyderco, in the manufacturing of CPM440V blades. Some of them were not heat treated right and most, such as mine, were perfect. I love mine and will not sell it.

I'd love to see another run of G10 Natives. I'd pick up one or two. I'd like to me more blue G10 period.

There were also the black G-10 ones with the shell inlays, blue shell on the PE and root beer shell on the SE.

Wow… thanks for the great pic, Deacon!

I remember handling some of the shell inlayed Natives at SFO. They were extremely nice: way different from the FRN Natives.

I don’t know how many were made or how many are out there. The “shell” stuff isn’t real abalone or anything. It’s a composite material that, IIRC, Spyderco had trouble with; it would kind of peel off the scales sometimes.

Black G-10 can and has been done, now it's just a matter of convincing them to do it again. :D

There were 500 of each of the shell inlay Natives made.
It is shell but inlayed in a mosaic style.

Huh… that's interesting. Thanks for the info. What kind of shell was used? How was it inlayed in a mosaic style?

Not sure what kind of shell,I would think that it is MOP pearl that has been dyed.
The inlay is done with separate peices of shell pieced together.
On some like in the deacons pic it is hard to tell and in others you can see where the pieces meet.

Hmm… that may very well be true. Honestly, I’m pretty retarded, so everyone should ignore my posts anyway - lol :) . But…Spyderco took several pieces of MOP, chopped them up, dyed them, and then pasted them back together? It don't make sense! :D

My guess is it’s a composite material. Maybe there’s real MOP in there, but it’s mainly epoxy or whatever. I don’t think it’s what people would consider to be real abalone.

For a short time I've had three shell inlayed G-10 Natives (now only one each), but I'm glad to share the pictures with you :)
