G-10 Offset - Stud lock sticking?

I just received a G-10 Offset. Great knife, love the MIM blade and the ergos, but the stud lock seems to stick every so often. I thought it needed to be broken in, but it seems to consistently stick every 4-5 openings. Is there any remedy to this, or do I have to send it in?

On another note, the MIM blade seems really difficult to sharpen. When trying to sharpen it on the Sharpmaker corners, I fear I might round the secondary point where the two edges meet. Any tricks or tips on sharpening this beast?

With the Stud lock, it might behave like that for a long time. Spyderco's compression lock is kind of sticky as well, and it doesn't go away. At least the sticky lock will make it that much more secure.

To keep the secondary point, "pointy" make sure you only touch the flat sides of the stone to it. Remember, that point is made by the combination of the two angles that meet. How carefully you maintain those angles will determine how sharp the point is kept.
Treat it the same as you would the tip of the knife, from either direction. There should be enough room to put a little bit of of the flat of a sharpmaker stone inside the re-curve, and keep the contrast between the two angles.
Otherwise you would have to be extremely careful using the corners.

Hope that helps.

KS, the stud lock can do that. it happens. after time, it should stop that sticky feeling. one thing to do is to watch where the lock is when it is open. what i mean by this is that it is a hexagonal shape, and there are smaller sections (aka the "corners") on the studs. those can have a tendancy to catch. they are just wide enough that when they catch enough, they stick. just rotating the stud a bit and opening the blade slowly will let you see if it is catching on those corners. you can do the rotation, and get it seated properly, then just close it normally, making sure at first not to rotate the studs.

that should handle it. at least it has with my speed bump

Thanks for the responses guys. I've been opening and closing it for the past couple of hours, and it seems to be not sticking as much. Probably means that its breaking in :) I'm sure it will be fine in time. When it was sticking though, it was REALLY sticking. I had to use two hands and a good amount of force to close it.

When you say it "sticks," are you talking about when trying to release lock to close the blade? I've had that happen on my ALBLK, but upon further reflection, I've found that, in my case, it ONLY happens when I'm screwing around and flick my wrist at the same time I open it. If I let the SpeedSafe mechanism do its job, the "stiction" doesn't occur. YMMV.

And yes, it does appear that when I do that, the hexagonal stud is resting on a point, not a flat.
