Hello...I am soon to be buying a rc-3. I am wondering what do you like better the g-10 slabs or the micarta? I have handled g-10 before and like it but i havent handled micarta. I will be using the knife mostly for hunting/outdoors so i need a grip that is good in all conditions and fluids;)...also does one last longer than the other...Thanks

The handle on the RC6 is canvas micarta if I record well. Well if so, I can tell you that its perfect, and handles especially well when wet :). Love the feeling the texture and the grip, wet, dry, hot or cold, love it

RAT Pack #75

Micarta, definitely micarta.

Or G-10. G-10 rocks.

:D

Seriously, I prefer the feel of micarta. And when micarta gets wet it seems to become even more "grippy". G-10 feels a bit stiff to me. Either way you'll end up with a durable handle. Can't go wrong.

I have both, but I think the micarta has a better feel in my hand, but thats just my opinion. I have a couple of friends who will only carry G10, so it really comes down to which feels better to you. If you can, try to find a knife shop locally and feel them both.

Gimme canvas micarta any day :D

Love the feeling over linen micarta and G-10...

This, all day!:D Canvas has the most grip.

ETA: To get canvas micarta on a RC-3 you would have to buy the desert tan blade. The black blade is linen and the green blade is g10.
Hope this is useful.

They're both great, but I prefer the micarta myself. Even with wet hands, you'll still have a great grip. Just my opinion though.

i personally like g10 better. the micarta on my rc5 always seems to absorb..sweat or oils or something and can feel slightly oily to me for a long while afterwards

I can't speak about RAT's micarta, but the micarta handled knives I've handle ( Boker,Al Mar,Bark River) had some really polished and slippery handles. The Barkie got a little grippier after washing the handle with warm water and soap and some use but it wasn't great IMHO.The G-10 i've handled ( Al Mar,Benchmade,Byrd) offered much more grip and felt better in the hand

You are totally right about the Barkie grip, I have an Aurora, and it IS slippery and overpolished indeed. On the other hand, I also have a few BlindHorse knives with micarta handles and there's no problem there, perfect grip and they feel great in the hand. I guess it's not only about the material itself but also about each companys' manufacturing process. Anyway, I'd choose micarta over plastic anytime.

I'd go with canvas micarta and the rc3 mil, if a small animal comes in your path you can bust it with the glass breaker pommel :D

Canvas micarta can go both ways...thats the beauty of it. You can take it up to a polish, or use some rough sandpaper to give it more traction. It's easy to change to your needs.

it sounds like grip is favoring the micarta. My problem is, its going to see alot of water, snow, oil, and blood(whatever else is inside a deer too:D) Sounds like the micarta absorbs liquid easy also. I don't think i want my handle soaked in these things for a long period of time so does it wash out easy? Or does it stay inside the handle for a while? Also i forgot to ask about the grey linen handles? How do they compare?

Micarta washes out very easily. My RC-5 has been through a lot of dirty, extended camping trips and always looks brand new (the handle anyway!) after some soap and water.
