Okay everybody,

My long wait is over, about 4-5 weeks down and my black, extra grippy, G-10 handle scale is here!!! Of course it's another miracle by Barry H, and I can't thank him enough

A few weeks back I contacted Barry H in regards to creating a G-10 handle scale for a right handed Umnumzaan non locking side because I had polished (semi-polished) my Umnumzaan's handle scales which left the flat plain portion where the thumb grabs the handle out of the pocket too smooth. One day at work I was trying to pull out my Umnumzaan and the knife slipped and fell  I was mortified by this and my "belief" in my knife was questioned. Thus, I went on the hunt for the one person who could cure this lack of faith, Barry H :D

Barry H said back log is a couple of weeks, I said great that gives me time to save a little from my next two checks, and he said that'll do :p

The Scale is Amazing!!! On to the pics:

Looks great and fits right in at work...

The scale is so great that it knocks off a whopping 1 ounce from the 5 ounce total leaving it right at 4.0 ounces...Durability, grip, and lightweight now...

I am in love with my Umnumzaan all over again. The knife feels even more comfortable in hand, same solid lockup, lightweight, extra grip where it's needed, and the blade opens up even more quietly than before.

This is my initial excitement, I look forward to being able to do a full review on how it performs (excellent no doubt) at work and off duty on my recreational time.

Thank you all for looking and a big thank you to Barry H, the man's got skill :)

Nice. Of course, your title is going to leave people wondering where the Ti Lock part of the thread is...

That's a fine looking Umnum. Barry's work is awesome. One of the biggest differences I've noticed since acquiring one of his G10 slabs for my small Seb is how much easier it is to draw from the pocket and open. The increased grippiness makes all the difference.

May I ask how much that kind of work ran? I respect the Umnum, but had never wanted one. This makes me really want one!

I don't understand about the Ti lock questions? The Umnumzaan IS a Ti frame locked knife, but now it has a G-10 scale. I know it has a ceramic ball for the lock face, but it's still on a Ti frame lock :p I hope no one was thrown off by that.

The G-10 scale has amazing traction like Professor said and it's a lot easier drawing the Umnumzaan out now, especially at work where my holster almost blocks the right side pocket and I have to really work my hand around to get it out.

For a quote on the scales, I'd contact Barry H himself, it all depends on the material and what kind of detail or work you want done on it. I just wanted a strider/emerson grip on my Umnumzaan and that is what I got

This scale is just the start, I'd like to get one in every color possible by Barry H in due time ;)

LOL u meant G10 scale, titanium lock.. I, as well as others saw your title and thought you had an umnumzaan and ti-lock with g10 mods =P Nice scale though; ive never wanted one because i have the sunburst scales from wilson combat, but those g10s sure look nice! cheers mate!

LMAO, I failed to realize that CRK had a knife called the Ti lock :D. Now I understand the confusion :o

Title fixed :)

I'm curious as to how rigid a plain G10 side is when gripped. I know most knives I own that are designed for heavy use have a thin piece of heat treated 440C or other steel liner to increase rigidity. Are Barry's sides plain G10, or is there a liner molded in? If you pinch the knife, is there any give in the G10?

There's no give, even when white-knuckling my small Seb with his G10 slab. I too wondered/worried about this, but was more than pleasantly surprised upon delivery. Even mine, with sculpted handles, has no flex whatsoever. I would imagine that unsculpted/flat-topped G10 slabs as on the OP's Umnum are even more rigid.

Glad it met your expectations!

To answer an other question, G-10 and carbon fiber are stiff enough to make solid replacement scales. I have no need to use some sort of titanium or stainless liner. Micarta, fyi, is not stiff enough on its own.
