hi everyone i am new to this site and knife makeing. i have a question for working with g-10 material. what is the best way to cut and shape the material?

WEAR A RESPIRATOR!

That stuff can cause cancer. As far as cutting it, I'd use some kind of wet belt saw to minimize airborne particles even more. A tile saw comes to mind. Shape it by wet sanding.

I'm not aware of a cancer risk in machining G10, but certainly a respirator is recommended.

G-10 works like hard wood , more or less.

I use a hacksaw to rough out my shape , then small files down to sand paper.

It is nasty stuff , yea use a respirator. I tape the hose of my shop vac right near where I'm working it , to suck all the find dust up , I dont like having that dust on my stuff.

It does grind like hard wood (actually a little nicer), but it doesn't cut like wood. It'll work just fine for the first few passes on the table saw, but soon you'll notice the cuts start to slow down as the teeth get dull. I had to send two of my nice carbide blades out for sharpening after cutting a relatively small amount of G10 and G11. The best solution is to use a diamond circular blade.
