couldn't pass this up while cruisin' on the 'Bay for a bit less than 1/2 the price listed on the G.E.C. website. serial #012 of 150, 2007. jigging is "horsecut" (new term to me) and color walnut. actual color has a dirty purple overtone esp. near bolsters. i don't find it particularly attractive. springs are strong, requires sturdy fingernails. blade action is not overly smooth, a rub in tang area is felt. excellent edge grind, both blades easily shave hair. interestingly there is a 1/2 stop, but only on the pile side blade.
i also have a 2006 Northfield model 73 Scout in very fine stag. this knife has slightly easier springs (perfect, i think), and blade action is smooth and both blades have 1/2 stops.
so i would say my #73 is right on, and the #53M is o.k., esp. at 1/2 price.
had i paid the full $121 list price, i would be disappointed.
anyone else have a #53M for comparison, esp presence of 1/2 stops ? roland

BTTT am i the only one with one of these new Northfields ? would sure like to hear from any other owners, esp. re: halfstops ? roland

I noticed that model the other day, they look really nice. It looks like you got yourself one heck of a knife there. It's not the exact color I have always been looking for but I like the knife.

Sunburst

Don't have that model but do have the small Outer sheath knife also in that Horsecut bone. What's it MEAN 'Horsecut'?? Like the knife a lot and I think the jigging on the bone is well done, it has a slight purple hue to it and it looked a touch DRY. I gave it an oil soak and the bone came up very well, darker colour much nicer to touch as well.

Just wish GE would get on with making some smaller sizes in pocket-knives, they're too hefty for my liking but very good knives.
