I got a R.A.M. last year and never really carried it. I didnt care for how the grip fit my hand, and the clip was pretty stiff, so I bent it out a hair, but it rarely got any pocket time.

Fast forward to about a month ago...I catch wind that G&G Hawk is releasing an upgrade for the clip on the R.A.M. I will be honest, I wasn't really amped about it initially, but I was curious about an upgrade for mine to maybe improve it. Then I saw some pics (stolen from kneedeep)...

So I think, hrm, looks cool....it's a gadget...not pricy. Ok, let's try one. This thing is too cool.

It works absolutely great. No more wear and tear on the pockets, but really holds the knife in place until you pinch the release. I was a bit concerned about the corners on the pressure release, but Gavin mentioned that they may use a more oval design. Good thinkin!

Okay, so remember that grip that I didnt care for? Problem solved, this clip gives the handle a nice contour, but some additional swell in the palm. Now the knife fits my hand better to boot. My R.A.M. is now getting 3-4 days of carry a week. I believe G&G Hawk is also working on similar clips for the ZT line. I plan to get one of those as well.

Yep, Gavin is still working on the ZT clips. I am waiting on one as well to put on my 0350.

Overall, I like the clips. I have a minor qualm with it. I would prefer that the clip not extend past the knife. Looks a little tacky to me. I hope he changes them for the ZT line.

I have a bottle opener model on request :D

Oh. OK. That's good then. I'm gonna hazard a guess that the regular models don't protrude past the knife.

How secure is it when you have the knife clipped in?

Very secure. Much more so than the original design. I have smooth scales on my RAM and I have no worry of the knife coming out accidentally. It has better retention than any of my other clips. I is a bit slower to draw though, because it's so tight. It helps to release the clip to pull the knife. It's hard on the pocket if you just yank the knife out.

Itching to get my hands on one for the ZT. I'd imagine if you practice enough, you could draw just as fast. You'd just have to squeeze the clip and pull at the same time.

I can't really practice quick draws with my clip unless I want to shred my pockets.

i agree. very good investment. i got mine about a month age (with a ram) and have been carrying her ever since. gavin had a few. if you like the ram, get it!

So far I think that the clip is an excellent solution to two design goals that are pretty much opposite, retention and easy removal from pocket.

Once the knife is clipped in, it isn't going anywhere unless you want it to (especially if there is a seam on whatever you clipped it to).

I carry my RAM in a side cargo pocket. The lip of most cargo pockets is generally pretty loose, most knives tend to migrate to the middle of the pocket unless I clip over the velcro tab or trap it behind a button. The the RAM with the Grip Clip doesn't move. Pulling the knife out is nice and easy. An added benefit is that the knife is easy to put back. Once I actually ripped a cargo pocket off when I tried putting another knife I have with a normal clip in.

Don't know if I came up with this idea before them, but I came up with this exact concept for a pocket clip about 3 years ago. I even emailed STR back then to see if he'd be willing to make a prototype. I'm just glad somebody actually made one.

these clips are awesome. my ZT clips are so tight i can barely get them in or out of my pocket. this would totally fix the problem. i wish they would mass produce these though and drop the cost of them. 50$ for 2 clips is still alittle too much for my blood but i'm sure the price would drop if they were mass produced

Personally, I think $25 for a custom clip is a pretty good deal.
You'll forget you dropped $25 when you clip one of these in your
pocket. They are really nice.

The RAM clip will also fit a Groove if you happen to own one. ;)
