I have aquired some knives and was wandering if anyone knows anything about the knives and their value. They are all new (there are 8 of them.). I beleive they were imported by spiderco, but i am not sure. They are inscribed:
ARCHISTRIAL H.Haneda/design and G.SAKAI MAKER AR 301 SS/ATS 34 Model
one is a limited adition with an eagle inscribed on the side. I hope this is the right place to ask about these knives and their value. Thanks.

Regarding the Archistrial knives by Hisatsugu Haneda. Most of the knives were made by G. Sakai without the authorization of Hisatusgu Haneda. In addition, the knives are not the original design and have been modified by G Sakai without the approval of Mr. Haneda. The original knife was designed in 1988 and manufactured by G. Sakai in Japan under a royalty contract with Mr. Haneda. This contract was terminated in 1994 when Mr Haneda discovered these illegal modified designs in the U.S. market. At this time Spiderco (distributor) decided to discontinue sales of this knife in the U.S. Since 1994 G. Sakai has not been authorized to manufacture or sell any Archistrial knives by Hisatsugu Haneda. You can see the original design in Mr. Haneda's website http://www.libertydesignsinc.com/j-industrial.html

Hi Sparky. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Good find. Probably more value in the depth of design than in dollars.

Hi Bladesmithx.

Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Thanx for the history and information.

Spyderco did for a while distribute the Haneda designs in the USA under the G.Sakai label. I was taken with the designs. His use of finger choils was interesting to me.

I have met and spoken with Mr. Haneda. He also designs rods for fly fishing. His designs are well thought out.

Spyderco imported both folders (micarta and SS) and fixed blade versions. Most were ATS-34 with a diving version made from AUS-6.

I had not heard that they were not authorized, Mr Haneda didn't mentioned it. Spyderco disco'd the models because sales did not support keeping the design.

Hello Sparky,
I have one original knife by H. Haneda. Henry Haneda is a friend of mine and I am certain that I have an original.
Have you perhaps learned anything else about these knives. I haven't tried Google yet to track down H.Haneda's whereabouts
but do know that not all of the knives in circulation are counterfeits. I would also like to know the value of this particular knife
as Henry told me that it was unique and would be very valuable one day. His composite fly rods used to retail form more than
a $1000 and he is a true artist.
Would love to hear if you learned anything new.
Thanks a bunch,

SparkyWilliams hasn't logged on since February of 2005. I don't think you're going to get a response.

True but I wonder if the fellow who posted this thread about the same knife last month might be him, back under a slightly different name.

Yeah Deacon, it is the same guy. I came back to the mountains, and found one of these knives left.

The knives mentioned, all sold really fast, and really well , on ebay, in 2004. I met Henry, later, around 2007 ,I think. Might have been a bit later, not sure. To the person asking his wereabouts, I am not sure I could tell you, without his permission. You were right , about the fishing rods, however. I sold the blanks, for 1 buck a piece, so silly me!!! ( I had around 200 of these)

I still have 13 original Henry Haneda photographs, that have been following me around, apparently for years, as I cannot get rid of these.(They literally follow me) And the AR 301 Blank knife, with the half assed Archistrial logo. Mr Haneda told me that this was one that was used to test the stamp, that wound up , like the knives in this discussion.

I was standing behind Mr Haneda in a Safeway, when I actually met the man, personally. I was very honored to have such an artist , at my house. He came over, told me the stories behind most of the photographs that were on my walls. He told me the values of the knives, and especially the fishing rods. 13 of his photographs, and that knife, again, are in my possession, after 5 years of seperation.

To the person who asked, in this thread, about Mr Haneda's well being, I saw him last, in 2008. The Knife, and the photographs seem to follow me around.

Follow the thread down.

Curt, If you have one of the originals, (AR 301 G Sakai with the HH stamp on the side) moneywise, they go for abt 300 bucks. I guess there were some counterfeits, but if you know , or knew Mr Haneda, chances are, yours are not counterfeit.

I understand that. What I don't get is if nobody else comments on the value of the knives for 11 years and then you come back and answer all of the questions you originally asked, does it count without any kind of documentation or citation? I am not questioning your integrity but I want the most genuine valuation possible.

Ahh, I see.

As far as documenting anything, lo l. You can look up the value of the AR 301 yourself, or checkout the Archistrial Designs website itself and see what Mr Haneda, or his company is charging for those particular knives, with his logo.. All I am saying, is, that after posting that,(the start of this thread) back in 2004, I decided to sell them on ebay. I got a pretty penny for the ones I sold on ebay. (I sold 9) . Close to what they are being sold for. (someone told me not to drop prices on this forum.) I still wonder, however, if mine is worth more or less, being the stamp is incomplete.

So the mystery of the knives that I had (and still have 1) are no longer a mystery. The authentecity is not a question. I got them from his defaulted storage unit. I just thought I would come back here and answer the few questions others had, regarding the knife, and whether that was me over in the other thread
