Hello all! I've come to this site many times to find good information on things I'm not sure about and I want to thank everybody that's posted.

I found a really nice axe in an antique mall last summer and was hoping somebody might be able to help me figure out the value and any other information I don't already have on it. I haven't had much luck to this point. It's a double bit with 'G. White Axe Co. Honesdale PA' and also 'Stub & Twist' stamps. There is also another stamp which is simply a small square close to the 'G. White' stamp. Yesteryeartools.com has some good information and what I've gathered so far is that it was made some time between 1872-1899. The head measures just shy of 10" bit to bit. It has an octagon handle measuring 33 3/4". I don't know if this handle is original (if someone can verify that it would be great), but it's what came with it and it's beautiful and solid so I'm keeping it. It cuts like a dream and holds an edge better than most knives I've seen. I'm not selling it, but I would like to have an idea of the value and find out anything else I can about it.

Thanks in advance to everybody!

Yesteryeartools.com has some good information and what I've gathered so far is that it was made some time between 1872-1899...

YesteryearsTools (via the provided link) says:
"The STUB & TWIST brand was registered by L. J. Eddy of Honesdale, PA. on May 30, 1916 ... It was claimed to have been in use since 1866... the company continued production until it was completely closed in 1928."

YesteryearsTools also says:
G. White & Bros. 1857 -1862?
G. White & Co. 1862?-1872
G. White Axe Co. 1872 -1899
G. White Co. 1899 -1928

However, the listed years 1872-1899 are not consistent with a "News" article from 1906 which states:
"The G. White Axe Co. has been chartered in Pennsylvania, with office in Honesdale."

from The Iron Trade Review, August 16, 1906, page 34 (far left column near bottom).

As for valuation, I think those questions are forbidden at this forum unless the member has a gold membership.
