G1 - steel?

Spyderco's easrly models were Gin-1(or G-2, same product).

Gingami-1/Gin-1/G-2(choose a name)

0.9 Carbon
15.5 Chromium
0.6 Mangenese
0.3 Molybdenum
0.2 Phosphorus
0.37 Silicon
0.03 Sulphur

Can't comment personally, but I've seen a lot of opinions on it. Hear it takes a decent edge and holds it pretty well. Can imagine that it'll be pretty stainless also(ats-55 is 1.00 carbon, 14 chromium... ats-34 is 1.05 C and 14.00 Cr... vg-10 is 0.95-1.05 C, 14.5-15.5 Cr)

yup, Sal mentioned once that GIN1 is G-2 and performance wise, it's pretty damn good. Comparable to ATS34/154CM, better than the 440 series I think, due to the high carbon content. Of course, heat-treating is everything, and I think that Spyderco's heat treat is up there with the best.

It's the same stuff. G2 and GIN-1. Good steel, but not anywhere near as good as VG10. I had a few of the older Police Models in G2, and none of them took and held an edge as well as my new VG10 carbon fiber model.

Sorry, I was not clear (my Englisssssh :( ).

Seki Cut has knife made from G1.
"GIN-1" is same as "G2", but what is "G1" then?

Thanks, Vassili.

Post a link to the Spyderco Forum. I will look and see what info I have on the steel .I had a lot before but I have it in storage.

Ok I just check original text again:
"...Camping Deba, G1 steel black Tsuchime Shirogami San-mail Damascus blade..."
I think this is new stell - G1, as well as new Damascus - San-Mail ;)
Let see what Seki Direct will answer.
Thanks, Vassili.
