This may sound like a silly question, but here goes. I've seen knives made of G10 or some other composite, like the Mad Dog Frequent Flyers, and was wondering.............does the composite blade hold an actual cutting edge, or is it used solely for its hardness (stabbing strength)? I'm considering having one made in a hookbill style, but if the composite blade can only be used for stabbing..............well, kinda defeats the purpose, since I have a LOT more things i need to cut vs. stab. And a hookbill just doesn't look like it lends itself well to stabbing, anyhow:( . Anyhow, I'd like to hear from the guys in the know. Any info you can relate would be appreciated.

TIA

They can be sharp, but not real sharp and they will not hold an edge. They are also a Felony in many many states.

In view of the current political climate discussion of non metallic knife materials could cause unwanted attention from the authorities.

RW....Guess THAT money saver was a bad idea:(. Just to clarify, I'm looking for something cheap that doesn't rust ( and that I don't have to clean or maintain ) when immersed in water for long periods. Maybe I'll be spending the money on one of the new wonder stainless steels. George............damn good point. I have nothing to hide from the authorities.............but.........better not to invite the scrutiny. That, and I really don't have the desire to commit a felony just to save a few bucks. Gentlemen, thanks for the input, and pointing out something that I should have thought of in the first place.

stainless means stains less. not stain proof. from what you posted about not wanting to clean or matain and its going to be in water all the time. buy a cheap scuba diving knife and when it turns into a bar of rust after time, get another one.
