One of my favorite folders, a DPX HST, has it's G10 scale broken.
This knife has never seen any real hard use...while chopping/cutting a walkingstick from a branch of beechwood about 1 inch thick the G10 broke around the pivot.

The surface of the broken G10 looked like this..

After sanding the surface looked like this.

I believe G10 is some kind of laminate?
In my G10 I can't see any laminations...looks more like tarmac to me...with very tiny holes (bubbles?)
Especially the radial fissures near the pivot-hole looks very weird to me.
Can some-one shine a light on this?
Thanks,

Jan

Wow, I was curious about the strength of a G10 scale without a liner. When I first got my HEAT with a G10 scale I initially thought it had an embedded liner of some sort until realizing how unlikely that was. I then asked if it was entirely made of G10 on this forum and someone from Lionsteel said that was the case but assured me it was strong.

Waooo... it is the first time that I see something like that!!!
I really want to understand what happened to the G10, very strange.
As soon as I will have it, through DPx, we will control the problem.

We have produced tens of thousands of pieces with this construction. Never happened a problem of this type. Maybe there was a micro crack within the material G10. When I have the knife in hand, we will study the issue.

Today the postman came and handed me a carton box, all the way from Italy.
There they were..my beloved HEST's.
Perfectly serviced.......
New green scale and an extra black scale.
New Rotoblock instead of the shell-bottom.
Both knives perfectly adjusted and centered.
Both knives sharpened.
They both felt as new!! :)
All at no extra charge.
I hereby thank mr Gianni Pauletta from Lionsteel (and Linda from DPX)for their perfect service.

I love these knives!!

Greetings,
Jan
