I have looked through past posts and have read the posts about g10 being dangerous if breathed without a respirator on while it is being worked. I am just wondering if g10 can be dangerous without being worked, possibly just by contact with the skin or something else? I know this question may sound ridiculous.

G10 is only dangerous when being worked.

When you grind G10, you create fiberglass dust that is very bad for the lungs.

Steven, don't worry, it is perfectly safe on a knife. If you were working with it a lot and grinding it then the dust would be a concern. I try to wear my respirator as much as possible......I'd like to be making knives for a long time. :)

Also, you need a respirator no matter what handle material you're grinding. They aren't all as bad as G-10 dust in your lungs, but there isn't any kind of dust you really want to be breathing. Dust in your lungs is very different from a solid handle in your hand.

Dust in the lungs is also different from a solid blade in any part of the anatomy, but the relative danger of it rather depends on a number of factors......
