I had written a long and very detailed review about the 3.5 dimple scale's that I was loaned. however there was a glitch when I posted and it did not save.

So here is round 2 of my review.

I used the scales for basic use. I made a spoon, a few feather sticks, and a couple traps. I primarily use canvas due to the grip when both wet and dry. I do not wear gloves when working with my knives, I do not like the way I can not feel the knife.

G10 is very slippery to me, and I do not like using it. I do like how you can get some very cool looking scales with bright colors using G10.

My first impression was that they feel like plastic. They do not have the same feel or sound when just holding them in your hand without them being on the knife. When I put them on the knife I was impressed. Its like having sandpaper on your scales. That blade is going NOWHERE!!!!! They are sticky and you have a great sense of grip with them at any angle or any hold.

I live in Las Vegas, so most of my days are dry. However I do get to Cali and Utah some as well as Oklahoma (my home state) and Texas. So testing them wet is a priority for me. When they are wet (without Gloves) they are very slippery. Jut like normal G10 without the dimples. If I put on a set of leather gloves it helped with the grip, however I do not like using gloves.

Since most of my days are dry I do like them and will use them. Hope that they become an option when buying new handles so that I can get them for my GSO 5

I'll add pics soon!!

Thanks for your thoughts on the textured scales. I was so hoping the texturing would take the slipperiness out of the g10 when wet.

Thanks for taking the time to post that, great pics too!
Really would love to give those a test drive

Also keep in mind the final version of the micro-texture looks to be different than these ones which were and R&D pair.

Thanks for taking the time to test and report back!

Are there any unsharpened blade blanks used for sheath making floating around out there? I'd love to see an UNSHARPENED blade with a microtextured handle get soaking wet and used to stab something HARD. That would give us a real answer about the new grip.

Haha this is a super specific request silver!

Well I stole it from the Becker forum. The standard handles on beckers are a barely textured zytel (plastic). There were always a lot of complaints (mostly from newcomers) that the handles were cheap and slippery and some even said dangerous. Awhile back some guys put something like motor oil on the handles and stabbed a steel drum. A few months ago a guy made a youtube video of him using a becker with the handle coated in a olive oil. He did some different types of stabbing. In all situations there were no problems and they proved that a well designed handle compensates for a smooth grip.

That makes way more sense now, I was a little confused by the need to check grip during forceful stabbing, I mean you come across so friendly online!? Haha
