Morning all. Im planning on getting my Dad an RC3. He will probably be using it for things around the house and for cleaning fish as he is an avid fisherman. How slippery are the G10 handles when covered in water and fish guts? Would the micarta soak it all up and be a pain to clean? How grippy are both materials when wet with water and blood? Is the G10 like a hard plastic or wil it soak up the liquid? Looks like the micarta would soak it up real nice. I have never handled either so i dont really know what im talking about. What do you recommend?

G10 is not micarta, they are totally different.

The micarta on the RATS hasn't given me any trouble, even when covered in oil.

The micarta does soak up stuff easily, but it only soaks into the top layer and cleans off with hot soapy water and a tooth brush.

I've never handled the canvas micarta on a rc knife but I have handled the g10 and I think it's just fine when wet but that's just me.

Not entirely.
There are many kinds of micarta. Micarta can be made from linen, canvas, paper, fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc. that has been cured in a type of epoxy. From what I understand g10 is micarta made from glass cloth(fiber glass).

Changed my R&P g10 handles out for canvas, I like the feel and look 100% better.

G10 can be a tad slippery when wet or bloody......

Micarta is also slick when wet UNLESS, just like G10, it is bead blasted or otherwise is lacking in a smooth finish.

The G10 handles seem just fine to me, I've got a pair of them, but if you want to improve the grabbiness, find a local beadblaster and have at it.

I know this is an older thread but how would the micarta hold up against blood? I am planning to use an esee 3 for gutting game and i didnt know if there would be any issues

it holds up just fine to blood i just wash it with dish soap and its just fine.

take it easy
