G10 Izula scales?

I just got my OD Green Izula in the mail and got to thinking about getting some scales for it. I know they make micarta scales for these, but I am really wanting some thin G10 slabs that fill the entire handle instead.

So, I got to wondering. Has anyone on here put G10 scales on their Izula? Whether you have done the work yourself. Or had them custom made for you.

I can't be the only person that would love to have a set of G10 scales for this blade. Orange. Black. Green. Tan. Any color would work.

If any of you do have G10 scales on this knife, could you please post some pics? And if you did have them custom made for you, could you please tell me who you had make them for you? I would love to see them. Thanks! :)

A few people have tried there should be some old threads around with custom handled Izulas

Thanks! I guess I'll look over some older threads..

Obtw, here is my new OD Green Izula that showed up today. Man, this thing would look awesome with flat G10 slabs on it!

Not that it looks bad like it is.. :D

I've been thinking about doing a DIY with G10. The thing is, there are reports of how hard G10 is to work on, and that's bothering the progress

Does anyone know how exactly G10 behaves under Cutting/sanding?

I don't know about the difficulties of working with G10 but I do know that breathing the dust is very hazardous to your health. If you are going to fool with the stuff you need to be very careful and make sure you use some very good respiratory precautions.

It is very to work with if you just try to grind it into shape. Use a coping saw to first cut the rough outline out, then it wont wear out belts as bad.

I really don't have any of the tools you would need to do it yourself. I guess I could go out and buy them.

But then again, it would be so much easier just to buy something already that was all ready made...

Phillip Dobson a member here done these out of wood for me. I'm sure he could make you G10 scales, or anything else for that matter. He does great work and his prices are very reasonable.

Your Welcome! If you are seriously considering Phil, the last time I spoke to him he had probably 50 different woods and other materials in stock. Including some exotic stuff IIRC.

I was looking at your Green Izula and thinking almost any wood color would work but with G10 I would have to have Black.

You've got me thinking about another one.

Good Luck and post pictures with whatever you end up doing.

Bill

I just wanted to add that I ended up wrapping the handle with paracord instead.

I figured that I could use the money that I would've spent on some G10 scales toward another knife; possibly even another ESEE.. ;)
