i was thinking about purchasing a knife. but im not sure if i should get an aluminum handle or a g10 handle.

btw it is the gerber 06 automatic

Both are very good, durable handle materials. G-10 will be a little lighter, more resistant to temperature change, and if appropriately textured, grippier. Aluminum will be a bit more rigid and resistant to impact (e.g., if you drop the knife), although it'll also show scratches and stuff.

Both are more than durable enough for even the most extreme conditions a knife will encounter, so really the main factor should just be which one you prefer the feel and look of.

Yes. What he said.

The Gerber 06 appears to be available in two versions: Auto and Manual.

I really prefer G-10 over aluminum. I have several Kershaw Cyclone's that i really like except for the aluminum, have been thinking about copying the Ram and adding a thin G-10 layer over the aluminum. This might be an answer for an otherwise great knife.

They are both good, which is why they are both popular. There is no "better" option. Its mostly and opinion. If you want more grip, lighter, and a color choice g10 is for you. And aluminum can be light to, but it can get cold and hot easier. It all depends on your preference. I like both, neither seems better to me.

I prefer g10. I like aluminum but g10 has a better grip and i can mod it by adding scallops along the handle with a dremel, makes it super grippy.

i dont think you can go wrong with g10. i have both and ultimatly prefer the feel of textured g10 over smooth metal no matter weather titanium aluminum or stainless steel. metal will always have a cold feel to it. now on the other hand i do like the texture and feel on my zt0300 titanium/g10 combination. combines the best of texturing of g10 and metal scales, i could probubly live with a knife being all metal textured in this way. i do on occasion prefer metal over g10. a sc sage2 i have fills that bill as a dress knife and wont tear up your dress pants pockets. im shure allot of people prefer to edc this kind of metal handle material. for myself i prefer the more functional g10.
