G10 Leek question

I had a SS Leek for a short time. I really like the blade, the smooth opening and the solid lock. Unfortunately, the handle felt slippery if there was the least bit of moisture on my hand.
I am thinking of getting the Leek with a G10 handle.
How does this compare with the SS Leek? How is the stone washed blade different from other Leek blades?
Thanks for sharing your experience.

...I have a G10 Leek with the "rough" G10 and I love it. I replaced the S30V blade with the 1660T reversed tanto blade to use it more aggressively as an EDC without worrying about doing any "tip" damage to the great S30V blade. I have very large "dry" hands and I also found that the aluminum or stainless handles are almost impossible for me to handle without having them slip outa my hand. The G10 does the trick for me. I wish those "rough" G10 handles were available alone.........Get that G10 Leek...you will love it...

I have a 1660CGT, which has the rough G10 handles and a satin-finish S30V blade. I also found the stainless steel handles to be slippery, but also too thin for my fairly large hands. The G10 addresses both of these issues nicely. The handle is grippier and a little more hand filling. You can find this particular model on the Bay for about $65. Same blade steel as the stone-washed version, just in a different finish. I highly recommend it.

got any pics??

...I just swapped the 1660CGT blade out and snapped the 1660T blade in it. If my daughter gets home with "HER" camera...:p...I'll shoot up a few pics. I'm sure others here have done the same "Franken-Mod" to a few of their G10 handles too...:)...I do love that "rough" G10...

The question is about the Leek's matte S30V blade finish.
I inherited this excellent knife from the "4 Perfect Picnic Partners" shoot, and it's my now my daily companion. I cook extensively for myself and often use the leek as a handy parer, chopper & slicer.
It could just be me, but I have noticed that the blade binds a little when going through materials that contain water. Flesh for example, but also fruit- of which I eat a lot daily.
So I wonder if the satin S30V blade or other blade is smoother cutting in that respect?
It's not a huge issue, but it's noticeable.
I so like the Leek's design, that I'm likely to buy one other to keep handy- you have some cool bi-metal stuff hitting the market I should look at.
Thanks for giving us a fabulous all purpose folder

...I don't have the Leek with the matte S30V blade...mine has the satin finish. In all fairness I have to say that all I ever used the satin blade on was to open one envelope before I removed it and replaced it with the 1660T blade. I knew I was gonna be using it as an EDC so I wanted to make sure I didn't do bad things to the tip. The 1660T blade is one tough blade for my use, it's bead blasted and sails through meat, leather, fruit, envelopes, cardboard, manila rope, radiator hoses, surgical rubber tubing, styrofoam like it's a red hot blade, finger nails and anything else I put it to. It's 13C26 and takes and holds a hell of an edge...Great lil' knife for an EDC IMHO...

Hi all,
Just got home and haven't read every post all the way through, but I have to say that I love the stonewashed S30V blade on the G-10 leek. I use mine often as an edc, and work in a bar during the day, so it has to cut everything from packing tape and twine to limes and lemons. I've never had a problem with and think it's one of the most attractive finishes I've seen to date.

Cheers,
Jon

I don't know that the satin finish blade offers any advantage over the stone washed in terms of cutting performance. I don't even have a preference for the appearance. I just know the satin finished blade can be had for about $15 less, which makes it the right choice for me.:D

Brodie, it's not about whether or not there is a difference in cutting performance between the two, it's about whether or not you have them BOTH in your collection:D:D

Get one, you KNOW you want one!;)

Cheers,
Jon

My new G10 Leek with stone washed blade has been shipped. I didn't see any of the deals on eBay that Brodie001 mentioned and I was unwilling to wait for one to be posted. Maybe I'll take jonnymac44's advice and get them both if the opportunity arises.

The G10/S30V Leek was one of my first good knives.I can't think of a single thing I'd change about it.It's a great lil' knife for EDC & doesn't scare the sheeple.

Look for the seller "yourknifeconnection" (who I have no affiliation with). The listing pictures are always an open and closed knife side-by-side on the Kershaw box. Only "Buy It Now" listings, but great prices.

hey just throwing this out there, but if grip-ability is a concern with smaller blades try the EnerG1. i have its bigger brother and it will not slip guaranteed. if you wanna go bigger and a bit slimmer try a blur. those trac-tec inserts are essentially grip tape--a bit hard on the pockets but they won't fail. bar work, hmmm make sure to test your blade with the citrus and wash it a lot between uses to avoid pitting and rusting.

hope this helps

My new G10 leek arrived today.:D Right out of the box the knife did not open as smoothly as the SS leek. A tiny adjustment and the new G10 was just like the SS, fast and smooth.
The only change I am considering is to remove the clip so the silhouette will be more suited to pocket carry.

I had the G10 leek, I liked it but it seems to grip my jeans too much, I ended up giving it to my brother and he has been carrying it for a while. I really love the titanium handle of the TI/ZDP leek, I wish all leeks had Ti handles or wish there was a way to buy just the Ti handles.

Just ordered one tonight, will post some images up on arrival ;)
