I have had my eye on the Navigator for quite a while. The one aspect of the aluminum-handled models that didn't attract me was the slotted scales. I don't care for the appearance of the exposed innards and was a little concerned about getting gummed up with lint and grit. Several forumites recommended looking for a discontinued model with a G10 handle. A few weeks ago, I found one and bought it.

What a great little knife! It has GIN-1 steel, rather than the VG-10 that the newer models have. That's fine with me, since I have several other knives in this steel and know exactly what to expect from it. The ergonomics of the handle are perfect for my hands, especially in a knife so small. The depression in the end that fits the pinky finger is a brilliant design, IMO. The action was a little stiff and gritty out-of-the-box, but I cleaned and lubed the knife, and now it's perfect. This knife is a solid, sturdy little user and will definitely make it into my daily rotation. Combined with a small multitool/SAK, a person could cover a lot of everyday tasks.

I recommend that folks buy one if they can find one. Or, get the aluminum-handled one if you don't mind the slotted scales.

I have 2 (plain & serrated) one of my all-time favorites. I like the grippiness of the G-10 on a small knife.
