Is there a way to tell G10 from Micarta?
I have 2 Game Wardens and want to know what
the handle material is.
One is a red/black (blender) the other is
a tan/black fatty (skunk?)
Do the handles require any special treatment because
Ive seen some mention they have oiled theirs?
While I got you on hold, what is the handle material
on the SFNO LE?
Thanks

(its 4.8 below zero here in Chicago)

SFNOEL is tiger micarta.

Micarta is more . . . natural looking. G10 looks like plastic handles. Micarta has some visible fiber in them - even the linen micarta has some "fuzz" to it.

IIRC, both of them Wardens are G10.

Yea what dennis said...G10 is like rubber/plastic and micarta has a fiberous feel to it.

No special care is needed for either handle. Some people oil their micarta do make the colors more pronounced/darker.

red/blk and tan/blk are both g10.

the oil is just to darken the scales. very effective on canvas or linen micarta, but g10 is not very pourous, so the effect is minimal.

paper micarta looks very much like g10, ie, fibers are barely visible, if at all.

Thanks for the info.
I just got my SFNO LE's and I can see the
difference now.These are the first
knives I have with micarta.
This #27 one looks funny though...
Thanks

All you need to know about Game Wardens, compliments of Lil' Foo, who is still AWOL.
