quick question. I just got G10 Police in ATS-34 with full flat grind plain edge. it has a Clip like the Civilian. I can't find much online. Wondering how old it is. Is it a "collectible"? Or should I EDC it. I thought I was getting a Police 3 so I could carry it. If it's rare I'll keep it or maybe trade it to a Hardcore Spyderco fan. Or become one. Actually I am. Just don't have any interesting ones. just ones I use. I love the Police and have a few. But I can only find one or 2 pics online of this one in collections with no info on it. And it's mint too. Do I have something really special?

Are you sure it's ATS-34? The only FFG G-10 Police I'm aware of were ATS-55. If it's one of those, it's about 10 years old and, while not what I'd call rare, relatively uncommon. If it's really ATS-34, rather than ATS-55, then you may have something rare.

The only ATS-34 Police I've ever seen is the titanium handled model. All the G-10 models (prior to the P3) I've seen were ATS-55. The flat grind blade with single liner is more common than the hollow saber grind unlined model.

POSITIVE. ATS-34. Full flat grind. Clip like a Military and Civilian. Says ATS-34 right on the blade.

Did you buy it on eBay?

Haha. NO. I never buy anything on *****bay. I found info on it at spyderco forums. It's in pictures with dozens of other spyderco Police models. apparently they used it briefly one year from transition from ATS-55 to 440-V to VG-10

I think you may have mixed up the military and the police model. Do you have any pics?

YES Pictures like that.lol You're a police freak too:thumbup:

No. I didn't Mix up. I have had and have many Spyderco Mili, Police and civilian. To Clarify. I just got it in a trade and it is on the way. The gentleman swears it says "ATS-34". I had him double check before He sent it out.

It looks like the 5th one from the right EXCEPT it has the boyle dent on the lock and it has a clip like a Civilian.

I did comment that it looked like a Military with a police handle. Maybe someone made a Hybrid?

Very strange on two points.
1 the only ATS-34 police was made with Ti handles
2 in the short run of ATS-34 Ti police I have had, seen or read about none were full flat ground

Also no chance of a hybrid with a military/police because they use different locks.

Ok. Thanks. He said ATS-34. But if it's ATS-55 is it a collectible? If So That would still be cool still. I Don't see many G-10 old police floating around except in collections like pictured above. I'd just like a Regular new Police or Mili so I can EDC it and not feel bad. I don't like carrying knives that are collectible.

One thing. the flat ground ones I've seen don't have the boyt dent. This one does.

The Boye dent came in late in the production life of the second G-10 Police. That would pin it down as a 2001 model. Collectible? To some of us, sure. Carryable? To some of us, sure. Mint condition seldom excites me, and pretty much all of mine have been carried at least a little (they are over the legal length here, so they don't get carried a lot). But then, I use a sprint run S90V/CF Military for a drywall knife, so maybe you shouldn't listen to my advice. ;)

. Just found Spyderco wiki and they came out with the boye dent at the end of 01-

C07G Black G-10 PE SE ATS-55 1999-2001 ? 2001: incl. Boye dent, "POLICE" on blade, single liner, partially screwed construction. N/A Full Flat Half- moon clip RH, TD

Mine's Mint with the flat grind PE with the dent and half moon clip with the Bug. So it's a little Rarer I think, since only being made in 01 then all discontinued. Sweet knife for a collection or carry.

Thanks guys

Some of the full flat ground G-10 Police had Boye dents, some of them used the Civilian style clip, but the one thing nobody here has ever seen is one in ATS-34. The most likely answer is that the person selling you the knife is wrong, and that when you receive the knife the tang stamp will say ATS-55. The alternative is that he's correct, and that this is a variant nobody here has ever seen. I would consider that a long shot, at best, but stranger things have turned up before, especially on models made in Japan where things, like the titanium Delica, are occasionally made strictly for the "local" Japanese market. Either way, let us know when you receive it, and post some pictures if it really is ATS-34. I will definitely be collectible regardless of whether it's ATS-34 or ATS-55 but, while ATS-34 would certainly be less common, it might be harder to find a buyer for unless someone from Spyderco can verify its legitimacy.

Nope. The only ATS-34 Police blade I've ever heard of is hollow saber grind and pinned construction. Unless someone took the time and trouble to track down a titanium Police, tear it apart, regrind the blade, etch the logo and model name and redrill the pivot hole perfectly so the lock still matched. It would be easier to build the whole knife from scratch.

Have you received the police yet?

it rings a bell -- a very old one. Very collectible I think.
