G10 Rookie; hard use or not?

Greetings you all,

I have a G10 linerless Rookie/SE I'm very fond of.

I would really like to use it at my work. The main cutting over there concerns thick tie rips, plastic fibre tie bands, medium thick cardboard and thick polyethylene film.(I'm a printer)

Now I would really like to know if my Rookie will be up for such rather heavy cutting chores.

I tried this with my G10 Standard and this knife developped blade play after one day(it had this to begin with, but I corrected it) My Rookie is rock solid.

On the Spyderco forums most of them thought it would be wiser not to use my Rookie for this, but I would very much like to know if there are more with this opinion.

So, should I use my Rookie for this or will it be better to use my Endura for it and keep the Rookie for light, off duty cutting chores?

Many thanks in advance.

Hello Spydutch: The Rookie is a fine knife. I have owned several of them. The last 2 I owned both had liners. I think the ones with the liners would take more of the "on the JOB" punishment than one without a liner would. However with that being said I would personally advise you to get yourself more blade to take to work with you.

Being you like SE knives as much as you do I would heartily recommend 2 knives for what you mentioned you are doing. First of all I think that a serrated JD Smith with it's blade geometry and ruggedness would take a bit more punishment than the Rookie model would. Also if you like something with the grip of a G-10 handle I would recommend a Centofante II C-50. Both knives are built for hard use.

I am a bit leary of you using that Rookie ( especially without a liner) because it is mainly more or less designed to be an EDC folder than it is a work knife. But the 2 I mentioned I think would give you superb performance. Just my thoughts :)
