When shopping for a knife, i often find the option of carbon fibre scales,,but the price is much more..is the difference in price worth the difference in quality or toughness? The g10 scales on my spyderco stretch seem excellent...whats the advantage to cf.

Thanks gov, great explanations, often times id like to view old posts to answer my questions, but i dont know how to find them..any advice. Is there a search feature somewhere

EDIT -APF is strong with the force, he knows:thumbup:

Best thing to do is buy a membership. Then you get the search function and it will bring up all related threads. a basic membership is only $10. It is worth it just for the search feature. It makes it a lot easier to find answers to questions.

For a knife handle the only difference between G10 and Carbon fiber is appearance.

So, if you value the appearance difference it may be worth it. If you are only interested in performance, then not.

I once asked this question of Tim Wegener, who offered his pro-hunter folder in both CF and G10. His reply was that if the knife breaks it won't be that handle slabs, so for practical purposes their is no advantage strength-wise to carbon fiber. He said he offered it mainly because some buyers preferred its 'dressier' look.

The Spyderco Stretch has "Peel Ply" Carbon Fiber, it's textured like G-10, but it's Carbon Fiber.

Heh, thanks Gov!

Once again I find myself agreeing with Knarfeng. I just can't forsee any situation where CF would out perform G-10. I wish I could find the shot, but it illustrates a forklift being supported on a sheet of G-10. CF is nice, but it is sort of like the difference of being hit by one H-Bomb or ten H-Bombs. Either one is overkill.
