Hi folks, haven't posted here in an age...

Any of you regular G10 EDC people? I'm itching to get my hands on the UK Penknife (the release is so close I can smell it XD ) but from what I hear, G10 scales are almost sandpaper like in roughness and really tough on clothes. Probably not a problem with my jeans but should I look for a seperate "dress knife"?

All depends on how it's finished. G-10 can be sanded so that it's smooth as glass, or textured so that it's damn near impossible to unclip the knife from your pants. If it's too grippy you can always smooth it yourself. Wet/dry sandpaper under running water (G-10 dust is not good stuff) will do the trick. I did this to my Dodo, worked very well.

I EDC my military about 1/2 the time. Haven't killed my slacks yet(yes, I wear dress pants 90% of the time).

I have never had a problem with wear from my StarMate, which has G10 scales, nor from my Li'l Temperance, once I loosened the clip a smidge. On the Li'l Temperance, the problem is the clip and not the G10 scales and a tiny loosening of that clip by bending outward it ever so slightly cures it. It still holds onto my pants pocket like a ViseGrip(Copyright) plier, so that is not a concern.

I've noticed a lot of variation in textured G-10. My CPM440V Military (probably 2-3 years old) and my Wegner and my BM mini AFCK all have this sort of pebbly, but smooth texture. Adds some grip, but overall feels more "roughened" than really textured like the current stuff. My Paramilitary is sandpaper-like and my Dodo is next to impossible to get out of my pocket.

Aloha!

My brother actually eats the stuff! (Don't worry, I won't mention your name King of Mars!) LOL!

I have noticed that if the edges aren't chamfered, then the pockets get eaten...I like G10 a LOT, but not as much as my bro!

I EDC a black handled G10 Dodo, often in front r/h pocket of 501s. Initialy it was very grippy, and sometimes made it difficult to get out, but either I've just got more used to it, or it's smoothed out a bit. It hasn't noticeably worn my pocket, but the whitish cotton liner has grey marks.

I rate the G10 handle highly.

Yes, you should definitely buy another knife. :D

Pretty much what everyone else said - scales start pretty rough, then seem to smooth a little bit. I haven't had any trouble with my Dodo, and it's still much grippier than my benchmade. If you don't like it, sand just a touch.

G10 is my favorite handle material, I have yet to find any handle material that fits my needs any better. I religiously EDC my S30V Military(my fourth Millie) and found the scale material to be a little rougher than the previous models. However, you will come to find that G10 does eventually smooth out over some carry time. I highly recommend it.
