This modification is simple does not affect the sheaths integrity and makes you sebby field strip able because you always will have the tool with you.

Here is what I did:
Got a #43 drill bit long enough to drill the hole about 1/16 to 1/8 longer than the long side of the allen wrench. Drilled the hole parallel to the stitching on the long flat side right in the glue seam. Then I put the allen wrench in and turned it in line with the glue seam and using an x-acto knife I made the cutout for the small end of the allen. Put a little shoe polish in the cutout area and it is all done. When the knife is in the sheath it tightens up the wrench so that you can't get it out, not that it was going to come out before, but it just locks it in place.

I sent Gary a .jpg maybe he can post it here I have not figured out how to do it yet.

Sounds like a cool MOD, I don't know though, as vicious as Gary is he may take offense to you modifying his design :D ;)

E-mail me the picture and I'll post it for you.

Vicious?

Nope not me ;) but the mod he did was something that I was worried about when he emailed me on it. As I worried about the structural integrity of the sheath, but he drilled bewteen the two glued layers on the Horizontal sheath so it should be ok, I'm all for inovations but the sound of drilling into the leather did make me queasy!
But when he sent me the image I saw what he did and it made more sense viewing it. And since it was easily understood I didn't keep the image. He asked me later in the day to post it but I didn't have it so I emailed back asking for him to send it again and I'd gladly post it...not a worry sir.

<center>vicious...me?...what was he thinking?
well I have glue setting up...better get back to it ;)

Me saying Gary is vicious was more of a deliberate contradiction in terms than anything, glad you caught it Gary.

You know what it's like in the days of digital communication. :)

I'd still like to see the photo JungleJim, also more than happy to post it.

Ciao!

Ah good, upgraded to Gold, handy isn't it?

In the picture you can see where the allen wrench resides, just above the stitched area, drilled between the two pieces of leather.

I make the top section, glue that to another piece of leather I call the stiffener, then trim the top edge of those two to the final width and then glue the two pieces to a third that will become the belt loop. So at the bottom of the sheath there are four layers of leather, pretty thick to hand stitch, I drive an awl down through to make the holes easier to hand stitch.

As long as he drills just between the layers there shouldn't be anyharm to the sheath, above the hole he cut at an angle to create a valley for the L part of the allen wrench to nestle into. Great idea!

I just receive his pic again but he beat me to posting it!
Thanks JungleJim

Clever indeed. I just keep the little wrenches strewn across the countryside...
