Next thing you know, our currency will be printed "over there"!!!!!!!!!

I heard a gong go off when I looked at the image with the tang stamp.
BRRRAAAAAANNNNNNNGGGGGG

This seller does at least, disclose the origin of the knife as being from the new manufacturer of Schrade and since the name is , in fact legally owned then I believe it's now up to the buyer to make the informed decision to buy or not to buy. We, of course are generally in the camp of do not buy. At the root of it all, that's what makes the USA stand tall. If any of us should happen to be in a situation where the same protection would benefit us, I'm sure the view would be different from there. I have not changed my personal position on aquisition of Chinese goods, nor am I in any way happy about US jobs going over seas, but the facts are we have certain freedoms and protections for all of us and I feel that as long as it's legal and Honest I cannot personally be against the business practice.

Finally I used the word personal several times and as such I'm not trying to start a long debate or ruffle any feathers. This is just MY view.

Even if the quality were as good as American made, being Chi-blades, they would not add any "value" to a collection. As a matter of fact, they would lower the self esteem of the other blades having to lay next to them.

Maybe that'll take some of the pressure off the market, and lower prices for those of us trying to buy a "real" 165.

We all knew it was coming !
If the new "owner" was "personally" responsible and upfront, the tang would be stamped "Made in China".
Since the Democrats, who now control congress, had a campaign plank about the Republican's permitting US manufacturing jobs to be "offshored",maybe we could get them to require that all imports be stamped with the country of origin.
Just don't hold your breath !
Now,what I would expect, eventually, out of this Tennessee bunch;is to reproduce the old models and tang stamps exactly like the originals.
It will be perfectly LEGAL,like Paul said.
Probably come with a COA,also.

OK guys, I am over my shock. I went on to work, waded in an icey swimming pool, put on faceplates and trimmed the liner, then moved several tons of backfill with a wheelbarrow. I feel better now.

Truth be known, that knife does in fact have a tiny "CHINA" stamp on the left tang just under the pattern number. Also, they made no attempt to duplicate any of the various original tang stamps. The TBLLC tangstamp is unique.

No, I can't begrudge Taylor for buying the Schrade names and trademarks, and attempting to recover his investment in a quick and efficient manner. But then neither am I in the market for Chinese produced knives. I do have a bone to pick with sellers (not this one) who use fuzzy pictures and all kinds of hype to sell TBLLC knives, but fail to disclose the origin. We've all seen those listings, I am sure. Kudos to Taylor for adding the CHINA stamp to the blade.

PS- Anyone looking for a 165OT/UH to use can find one for less money than a new imported version. I still buy them for less than $50. Mint NIB examples are still a bargain as well, IMHO. Just compare the top dollar $145-170 to current production knives of similar design and materials.

Sitting on my desk in front of me is the 953rd 165OT ever made. It is a Shikari shielded knife. So is my 2,200th knife. I also have the 4,533rd and 9,469th 165OT. The 13,134th one. The 16,239th one. The 18,685th one. And six others plus two Craftsman, a wood handled prototype, an orange handled one and two 165UH Prospectors.

Yes, I was a bit surprised to see the "New Generation" 165 patterns. Maybe I'll "oops" one for ten bucks and review it here. Or someone else here will and send it to me to examine.

G'Day..Be very careful posting it as they are very fragile and can break in the post easily........Why do I feel violated just looking at the 171UH with China on it??? Hoo Roo

Larry 303, are the Chinese and Taylor making a 171UH?Did you mean a 165.I just hope that the people that get stuck with these "knives" find out they are not what we call Schrades.I am afraid that they will try these and never buy a Schrade again.Do you think Taylor figures there enough customers he does not need repeat sales. My only comment is to ask all the new posters not to buy this junk.Arnold

Arnold,
Yep they are making 171UH's at Taylor. I did the nasty and bought one last year and did a comparison story which should be here somewhere.
Im sure most of the OT and UH library will be made by Taylor sooner or later.

I'm sorry I went brain dead again.I went on Ebay and the first thing I saw was a Taylor 171UH.Until this crap stops I think I need to quit posting and just read and learn.Arnold

Nope. Always glad to read your posts Arnold. Even with this question, new members get the link to read about the knife in question. Remember, there are no dumb questions. Though I sometimes give a dumb answer!

Here is another link to the Schrade Walden/Schrade 171UH research posted this past June. As with all my research, the original draft in my files is constantly being updated and added to as new information comes to light. I only update the research here when enough new matter accumulates to make it worthwhile.:
