One of the fun things about knives is the gadget factor of a knife whether it be an auto opener ala LCC D/A, or one of the Kershaw speed assists, or snapping a fixed blade into a well fitted kydex sheath. What are some of your favorite gadget knives and why?

My favorite gadget knives are Appleton knives. Just the pivots and locks are the coolest gadgets made. (Yeehaw! Gonna play with some Appletons in Atlanta!)

OTF autos are pretty cool to me as well.

It might be sacrilege to refer to the flipper on my CRKT M16-14 as a gadget. But, whatever one labels it, it is easily my favorite. (Only have one other)It speeds opening the blade so much, and hopefully, should the lock ever fail, -- heaven forfend -- the flipper would save most of my fingers.

/Colinz, working on that whrrrrrlll part.

My favourite gadget is the “Carson Flipper”. It enables me to open my M16 as quick as an automatic knife. Furthermore as Bugs3x above mentioned the safety aspect.

How about the way the Case Hobo splits in two and the way it locks together when you close the fork.

I love Ken Onion's "speed safe" mechanism, but my favorite "gadget" has to be the Emerson Wave. I wish everyone else in the industry would license it.

I really want a Wave on my REKAT Sifu!

I like gadgets too but am a "form follows function" kind of guy.

A gadget for the sake of gadgetry is in the way. It has to be useful.

The new MOD Dieter CQD (the newest Dieter not the first run) has a belt cutter on the rear that is always at the ready. No need to deploy, it's just there built right in to the scales.

The front has a carbide tit that portrudes slightly out the front for breaking tempered auto glass with just a tap or scratch.

Great items for Police, Paramedic, EMT types and the belt/ shroud cutter is a real hit with smoke jumpers who might need to cut a parachute shroud coaught in a tree quickly (the tree might be on fire).

For these guys it's a great knife. For the everyday carry guy the only option missing from the Dieter is a traler hitch:^) It's BIG!!!

If you've got duty gear op you'll never notice it but if you hang one in your pocket better get at least one suspender. A good one.

The smaller medium Dieter auto is coming out soon and I look forward to it being a better carrier.

Gadgets are OK but really useful gadgets RULE!!

Hey, I'm not one to participate in dirty jokes, but a carbide tit? Doesn't sound like it's all that great to me. Though I can see how a carbide tit could break windows, etc.

Hey Kutch...

Yup,, ya gotta like the sound a knife makes locking into synthetics..

You know it ain't going anywhere when you hear that special sound...

I'm still fairly tickled w/ a couple of my Swiss Army Knives.

I agree with Rugger. For gadgets, I turn to Swiss Army knives or even a multi-tool like the ones mage by Leatherman, Gerber & SOG. As far as having what I call "a neat trick" it would probably be the assisted-opening knives like the Kershaw Onion line.
